CLOY: Episodes description editing

edit

The episodes section is flagged for prolixity. My aim over the next (unspecified) period is to suggest condensed and improved language for this section (and the Plot as well but it needs less attention). I hope to receive advice from others interested in CLOY and this project. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fhenle (talkcontribs) 19:45, 25 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi Fhenle, welcome to English Wikipedia, you're free to WP:BOLD ahead with the cleanup as long as you're following the WP:PLOTSUM, WP:MOS, and WP:FANCRUFT guidelines, I doubt any editor will revert you. Happy editing! Paper9oll (🔔📝) 08:13, 26 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks very very much for the advice. The links you sent are just what I needed. to get started. fhenle (talk) 12:51, 26 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Fhenle Fyi, your edits are welcome and appreciated. However, do note that plot summary should be below 200 words as the table is not in an standalone episode article in which the below 400 words doesn't apply to this article so unfortunately you would need to cut it down further. Whoops! This is a major problem with the first episode. I'll have to aim for 200 words in the others and come back to this.
There doesn't appear to be a simple way to count words in Wikipedia. Do you know how? Fhenle (talk) 17:04, 29 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Fhenle Unfortunely Wikipedia doesn't have built-in function for such. You will need to copy it to a word processor (e.g. Microsoft Word, Google Docs, Apple Pages, etc) to get the word count instead. Paper9oll (🔔📝) 17:16, 29 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
The latest version of Episode 1 is ~250 words. I think it will not be difficult to create versions of the other episodes that are under 200 words. I agree that the result is much more encyclopedic in style. A lot less fun as well. <sigh> Fhenle (talk) 13:29, 31 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
The episode summaries for this K drama were flagged for being "excessively detailed." I have replaced them with new summaries that are more concise but not particularly short. They are all under 200 words but sometimes close to that upper limit. I hope I've avoided fancruft but doubt I've been entirely successful.
I'd like to remove the flag but think someone familiar with wikipedia guidelines should look at them first. This need not be you but perhaps you can suggest someone? I'm willing to make adjustments as needed.
Thanks again for your previous help with this process. Fhenle (talk) 18:23, 11 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Fhenle Please rewrite, as stated on WP:PLOTSUM quote "[The objective of a plot summary] is not to reproduce the experience of reading or watching the story, nor to cover every detail. For those who have not read or seen the story, it should serve as a general overview that fills in on the major points. For those who have, it should be detailed enough to refresh their memory, no more" however I see none of this. What I'm instead seeing is that you written a recap of every single details covering every single scenes (including unnecessary epilogue) in which per WP:PLOTSUMNOT quote "A plot summary is not a recap. It should not cover every scene and every moment of a story. Not only should a plot summary avoid a scene-by-scene recap, but there's also no reason that a plot summary has to cover the events of the story in the order in which they appear (though it is often useful). The point of a summary is not to reproduce the experience—it's to explain the story. Do not attempt to re-create the emotional impact of the work through the plot summary. Wikipedia is not a substitute for the original" however I'm seeing materials for example "Se-ri wakes, hanging in a tree. Jeong-hyeok orders her down. She drops into his arms", "The village wives welcome Se-ri. She learns that Jeong-hyeok studied piano", "They kiss", "in South Korea ...", "in North Korea ...", and more, which are clearly a scene-by-scene recap. Also you don't need to add line breaks for plot summaries. Paper9oll (🔔📝) 07:34, 12 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
I've replaced the delinquent summaries with ones that hopefully are more in the right spirit. Fhenle (talk) 19:01, 14 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Fhenle   Done {{Long plot}} maintenance tag removed. If you wish to, you can still expand further as long as it's within the spirit of WP:PLOTSUM and WP:PLOTSUMNOT. However, do note that if you expanded too much (i.e. over 200 words) then {{Long plot}} maintenance tag would be added. Regardless, thanks you for your effort.
