Talk:Craven District

Latest comment: 6 months ago by Northernhenge in topic Move discussion in progress

I moved the district back to Craven and the dab page to Craven (disambiguation) as this is clearly the primary meaning - almost all the incoming links to Craven are for the district, and most of the things on the dab page aren't referred to as just "Craven". — sjorford++ 20:35, 18 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Boundaries

edit

The current Boundaries section describes in detail the old ecclesiastic Deanery of Craven, but in its last two sentences it is in error re Lonsdale. I dispute "It did not historically include any part of geographical..."

The last two sentences must be rewritten for I am about to add a section on The Great Domesday Book folio 301v that clearly lists Hornby, Wennington, Melling, Nether & Over Burrow and Thornton-in-Lonsdale as being within Craven. This evidence disproves the previous author re "geographical" so I must delete that word. But one could retain "ecclesiastic" if someone replaced the vague "historically" with a date.

Topography

edit

I have today added many references to this topography section. Sorry about the omission. May I now remove the {{Unreferenced section|date=May 2011} tag? Kildwyke (talk) 13:52, 17 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

I cannot see a problem with removing the tag. I have done a couple of minor tweaks to the formatting but there appears to be a problem with one of the references not having any text, Could be just a typo in the tag name. Keith D (talk) 19:02, 17 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

The item "Craven District Plan" which URL is: http://www.cravendc.gov.uk/NR/rdonlyres/4FE44BAA-8109-432A-B4D8-01C24FE62AD5/3527/CouncilPlan200912FinalVersion5.pdf proves inaccessable. It responds "To view this page, you must log in to area www.cravendc.gov.uk” and I, and presumably most viewers, do not have such a username or password, and no facility is provided to create one. I propose to delete this entry unless someone can provide another link to it. Kildwyke (talk) 14:57, 21 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Move discussion in progress

edit

There is a move discussion in progress on Talk:Craven (disambiguation) which affects this page. Please participate on that page and not in this talk page section. Thank you. —RMCD bot 19:48, 2 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

This move resulted in the current article title Craven District. This was understandable in 2021 but the local government "district" was abolished in 2023. If the name Craven was just that of the local government district (like Eden District for example) then I'd suggest leaving it alone. However the name "Craven" is far more ancient and has a collection of articles written about it, including this one. I've been thinking about two courses of action:
  1. Restructure the article to place less emphasis on the past local government use of the name
  2. Rename it to something broader. My simplest thought on this was "Craven (district)" but does anyone have any better ideas? I don't like Craven (North Yorkshire) because the area historically covered parts of other modern counties. I'd personally just call it Craven but I accept the outcome of the 2021 discussion so won't be proposing that.
If nobody else chips in, I'll probably do a light-touch rearrangement and then move it to Craven (district).--Northernhenge (talk) 13:22, 22 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
