Christian or Muslim?
editEven in early 20th century the majority of the people in Crimea were Christian and not Muslim so this republic was not Muslim based. Baku87 (talk) 14:00, 15 October 2008 (UTC)
Good Point
editThat's a good point, Baku87, though according to the article the Crimean Tartars, who formed an ethnic minority in the republic, also dominated it politically. Tartars are traditionally Muslim, which would explain the "Muslim based" part of the article.
Anyway, there was also a large Jewish minority there at the time too (In Stalin's time, there were proposals to establish a Soviet Jewish republic on the Crimea before they settled on Birobidzhan). It would certainly be interesting to see the percentages of the population that were Muslim, Christian, and Jewish. rathersane (talk) 08:49, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
Anthem
editAnt etkenmen is known as the anthem of the crimean tatar people, but it the first time for me learning that it was also the anthem of this short-lived republic. Sounds feasible, but ist there a valid source?--Antemister (talk) 19:43, 9 October 2010 (UTC)

- Earlier rulers of Crimea, the Crimean Tatars, introduced their own flags under the Crimean People's Republic of 1917–1918. A light blue flag with a golden tamğa, known as the Kök Bayraq "Blue Banner", was used as the state and civil flag, the green colored flag was used for religious purposes, and the red colored flag was used as the Tatar's military flag.[1]
The light blue version is now used as ethnic flag.
