Fram made the following comments at DYK: The date of birth is sourced to an 1876 book, which I can't access at first sight. However, more modern scholarship dispute the 1504 birthdate of Cristóbal de Mondragón (and the corresponding age of 91 at the time of the battle), placing his birth in 1514 instead, or as uncertain 1504/1514. This would make him 18 when he joined the army, not a rather late 28, and 81 when he lead the battle, not the rather extreme 91. Online available sources for the 1514 date include this onethis, thisthisthis... Note that the Spanish Wikipedia also lists his year of birth as uncertain, 1504/1514[1]. Apparently the wrong date of 1504 was corrected to 1514 as early as 1906.[2]Cwmhiraeth (talk) 09:43, 19 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
