Assessment as requested

edit

Hi @Sariel Xilo: you requested an assessment on this article at WikiProject Comics. I've raised the article's quality to B-class, though there are a few things that I would recommend you to to solidify it at this rating.

  • Update the article: Currently the article says that the first issue of volume three will be released on December 9, 2020. Did that happen? Have any more issues been released? Digital, print, or both?
  • Plot summary of volume three: Assuming that issues of volume three are being released, a summary of the plot (so far) would be valuable.
  • Trimming plot summary, volume 2: I think that the plot summary of volume 1 is a good maximum length, and I'd recommend abbreviating the summary of volume 2 to be a similar length. If this isn't done, then when the volume 3 summary is complete, this section may be too long.
  • Publication history: the section on volume 1 says when the first digital issue was released: it would be good to add to that the release schedule (eg monthly or weekly) and the release date of the last issue in the volume. Same for volume 2.
  • Also on publication history: the length of the volumes in pages would be a handy addition.
  • Sales: The language in this section is clunky; can you find a better way to list the various chart positions?
  • Avoiding primary sources: As an example, the statement "A trade paperback, Critical Role: Vox Machina Origins Volume 1 was released on October 15, 2019." is only supported by a primary source. This would be better supported by a source not associated with the creators or publishers, if possible.
  • Expand header: Consider adding into the header information on the creators and the comic's reception.

Thanks for the great article! I hope I have been helpful. HenryCrun15 (talk) 01:20, 20 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

HenryCrun15 Thank you for reviewing this article! My understanding of the publication schedule is that they're irregular & more akin to a miniseries than an ongoing title. I'm unlikely to be the best editor to add a timely plot summary for volume 3 because I don't plan on buying it - I actually got vols 1 & 2 out of the library so I could add those plot summaries to the article. I'll see what I can find in terms of secondary sources for dates but my understanding is that primary is fine for factual statements (especially since notability is met via the sources in the reception section). I'll also take a look at the Critical Roll Fandom Wiki to see if they list total page numbers so I can update the collected editions table. Sariel Xilo (talk) 03:58, 27 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Dates

edit

@Little pob: I've found with comics that often the trades will have two release dates - one for traditional comic book stores (which order stock through distributors likes Diamond, etc) and one for book stores (typically get their stock through other distributors). For example, Critical Role: Vox Machine Origins Library Edition Vol. 1 will be released in comic book stores Nov. 11, with a bookstore release Nov. 24 [1]. In the case of Vol. 3, October 26 is a Wednesday which lines up with the day most comics are released (DC comics moved their NCBD to Thursday) so that's probably why the comic store release is day later than the book store release. Follow up - per this older Dark Horse press release, the release date was previously Sept. 27-28, 2022. Dark Horse/CR are just not great about announcing their delays; typically, they'll just update the date on the product page which is super annoying. Sariel Xilo (talk) 17:17, 15 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
