By the way, Bernard Hamilton devotes several pages to this in The Leper King and his Heirs - it's probably a more complicated topic than "rogue Reynald does something ridiculous", which is very Runciman. I have some more info from Hamilton, but I can't seem to find my copy of the book, and using Google and Amazon I can see all the relevant pages except page 184...I'll have to wait until I can read that page too.
