Does anyone know the reason why the male to female ratio 15-64 is 1.77 then? I thought the culture article might shed a clue because, regrettably, I'm only going off of stereotypes. Fephisto 22:28, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

this page and all of the culture pages need to be either deleted or seriously rewritten, very biased and you can't make an encyclopedic entry about something as vague as "culture." stan goldsmith 18:13, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

Recent edit warring about Gulf vs Persian Gulf

There has been a slow burning edit war going on about the naming of the Gulf vs Persian Gulf. Instead of repeated reverts, it would be worth discussing here so that we can come to a sensible consensus about the best way to move forward. My suggestion is that the first mention should be Persian Gulf as this is the common name. Subsequent mentions should be just Gulf because the geography has been set earlier in the article and there should then be no confusion with the Gulf of Aden or Gulf of Mexico or any of the other gulfs. -- Mrmatiko (talk) 13:23, 17 July 2016 (UTC)

Thank you, Mrmatiko, for taking the initiative. I will assume that you are well aware of the hidden agenda behind vandalizing the name of the Persian Gulf, so I will not go into details to bore you with that. I hear your suggestion, and it may sound like a resolution at first glance, but then there is no need to a resolution; and furthermore, the UN directive in this regard clearly states that the proper and full name of the Persian Gulf needs to be used in full in any subsequent mentions, as well ... after all, it could be a different gulf, say, the Gulf of Bahrain. So, I will also assume that we both agree there is no need for any discussion. If someone woke up one day and decided to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the "american gulf", would there be any discussion? Would there be any need to a consensus? Or would Wikipedians just laugh it off and go amend the acts of vandalism. In the same vein, can you please help me with my following question : what do you do with a vandal (a persistent one, at that) who is nothing more than an IP address? You can't talk to them; you can't reason with them .. and they just blindly and indiscriminately change all your edits ... what DO you do?? Your help will be greatly appreciated. Yours, Kamran the Great (talk) 07:46, 18 July 2016 (UTC)
While "Persian Gulf" is a little more disputed than Gulf of Mexico, I get your point. The only exception is Gulf Arab States because that is much more concise than Arab States of the Persian Gulf and is equally clear. It would be helpful to get some additional input from other editors on this page to discourage drive-by changes and if necessary aid any request for edit protection.-- Mrmatiko (talk) 18:29, 18 July 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for the message in my talk page , but don't get it what was not clear ? a single person is using multiple IP address and vandalizing any "Persian Gulf" to "Arabian Gulf" . I think we may report multiple IPs to block them all .--Alborz Fallah (talk) 18:39, 18 July 2016 (UTC)
All I have to say is I hope this gets resolved soon. The IPs are non-stop reverting all of Kamran the Great's and Alborz Fallah's edits, causing great disruption. A range block may be needed. Sro23 (talk) 19:49, 18 July 2016 (UTC)
It seems all that pages need IP protection .--Alborz Fallah (talk) 19:55, 18 July 2016 (UTC)
Unless the IP addresses are coming from a definite range, range blocks won't work, and single-IP blocks are impractical for an IP-hopping vandal. Therefore, all these pages have been semi-protected so that only confirmed registered users can edit them. Some were protected 3 days (which I'm skeptical will do any good) others have been protected for longer. ~Amatulić (talk) 20:12, 18 July 2016 (UTC)

Persian Gulf is the name of the geographical region that includes Iran and Iraq. I have no problem with the usage of this term. The problem is context. Using the "Persian Gulf" terminology in this article is inaccurate because Iran was the first country in the Persian Gulf region to have a theatrical tradition. If we say "Persian Gulf region", then Kuwait isn't the only country in the Persian Gulf region to have a theatrical tradition! The Sultan Gallery wasn't the first gallery in the Persian Gulf region, Bushehr has older art galleries. Another point of concern, Kuwait is not widely considered the "cultural capital of the Persian Gulf region". Kuwait is widely considered the cultural capital of the Gulf Arab region (aka, the Arabian Peninsula countries bordering the Persian Gulf). "Gulf Arab states" is more accurate. Persian Gulf refers to the body of water, it doesn't mean Kuwait is a "Persian Gulf state". Kuwait is internationally recognized as a "Gulf Arab state". This isn't PressTV or IRNA. This is Wikipedia. There should be neutrality in these articles. Rivkaoil (talkcontribs) 17:08, 26 July 2016 (UTC)
