In History of the Celtic Place-names of Scotland Blackwood 1926 p 496, W J Watson states that the ros is named after the horse stream. Ros-maircnidh is named after the ros or promontory itself, as is the adjacent Fortrose Teuchter20 (talk) 23:04, 12 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Curetán of Ross, the region in Scotland

He appears in the Martyrology of Tallaght on March 16th, read as 'Curitani sancti episcopi et abbatis Ruis' ['Curetan the holy bishop and abbot of Ross'], the portion continuing '.... Mind Bairend', read as 'Mind Bairend' ['the relics of Barrfind'].
