Surprise

edit

I was surprised that no mention was made of CM-branded TV sets, which, to the best of my knowledge, were sold in the 1960s up to some point in the 1970s. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.56.69.6 (talkcontribs)

Significance

edit

Maybe it's just me, but Curtis Mathes seems like a very significant American corporation and is worthy of a more substantial article. I'll add that to the long list of things I'd like to do, but I hope someone else who is more knowledgeable will step up. Rstandefer 14:35, 30 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

I have a heavy Curtis Matches TV manufactured in somewhere in the 1980's or early 90's. I have lost the owners manual and unable to program the program the tuner. Johahnleba (talk) 05:13, 16 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

video rentals

edit

Perhaps it was just in Eugene, Oregon but back when VCRs were brand new the only place you could rent videos was Curtis Mathes. They carried both VHS and Beta. It was several years later that specialty rental stores started popping up. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.22.125.104 (talk) 11:40, 18 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Curtis Mathes the man

edit

Why is there no wikipedia entry for Curtis Mathes. He was a household name in the 70s and 80s appearing in his own televsion commercials. "The most expensive televion in America, and darn worth it." I would think the company would want to honor the legacy. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kyle kursk (talkcontribs) 16:37, 14 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Company beginnings

edit

A UPI obit for CM says, "Mathes started with the firm, which dates to 1899, as a salesman in 1948." This is much older than our article now says. https://www.upi.com/Archives/1983/06/03/George-Curtis-Mathes-Jr-who-personally-marketed-his-television/8715423460800/
