Etymology
editAny editors interested in helping determine the etymology of this particular township? It is likely named for General Custer, but I can't find a reliable source the corroborate that. Anything else is just synthesis
- First Custer Township - proximity to Fort Abraham Lincoln and nearby natural feature known as Custer Flats
- Second Custer Township - no known connection, though Custer's men had performed patrols around other communities in the area (Mary Barnes, Origins of North Dakota Place Names, 1966)
