Surprising lack of recent and contemporary detail

edit

While there's a lot of interesting information about the history of the organisation, there's very little here about contemporary activities or even the last several decades of recent history. The Recent History section is rather truncated and lacking. Apart from the sport not having been, for a long time, anything like as 'covert' as it was in its historic roots there has been continuing adaptation to deal with modern road conditions and best Health And Safety practices, beyond mere adherence to the rules of the Road Traffic Act 1960, etc.

And there must also be something more to be said about a sport that more than 1300 cycling clubs across the country (England and Wales) affiliate to, has a similar number of races organised each year (that only being 'open' events, listed in the handbook; the local and unlisted 'club' events would significantly add to that value), and hundreds of thousands of individual (or tandem or team) rides. And then there's the competitions (including National Championships, British Best-All Rounder, Classic Series and - if/when it is finalised - the proposed new National Ranking System), scholarships, sport advocacy, etc.

Not that it should be a full-on advertisement for the organisation, there's already a link to their site, but comparing with the current content of the British Cycling pages (or even the likes of the subordinate Scottish Cycling) it's a bit sparse of 'current relevence', unlike the actuality. I may later add some things myself, even as an anononymous IP user, but (especially in case I don't) this is a general note that there's probably such a need. 213.205.252.227 (talk) 01:02, 18 December 2015 (UTC).Reply

Somebody ought to mention Alf Engers! But I see he already has an article here. Davidnugget (talk) 10:16, 20 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
