Some historical information would be nice. See Cycling_in_Melbourne.

How arrogant: so the people who added Bonza Bike Tours to this page mistakenly thought they were in Melbourne? http://www.tripadvisor.com.au/Attraction_Review-g255060-d1017705-Reviews-Bonza_Bike_Tours-Sydney_New_South_Wales.html —Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.44.122.84 (talk) 15:50, 21 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Check the revisions before November 20th. The link to Bonza Bike Tours was given as http://www.bonzabiketours.com/index.php?page=melb_bikeHire#FULL_BIKE_HIRE_MELB. As it linked to Melbourne specific info, I assumed this was a Melbourne company and removed the link. Can see that you are in Sydney as well, have added the link back in. Sorry for any hassle. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Teraplane (talkcontribs) 04:55, 7 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Needs improvement

edit

This is a weird article. For example, just after the opening, what does this mean: "Sydney has a hilly topography, depends heavily on motor vehicles where traffic and public transport operate at capacity." Tony (talk) 12:15, 23 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

The second sentence is there to provide context, pointing out that hills make it more difficult to ride than flatter cities like Melbourne, and that it is car dominated with congested roads. The next sentence focuses back on bikes "In its favour, Sydney has a generally mild climate and there are active cycling groups.". I think there is a lot of useful reference material in this article. If you want to reword the sentence you think is weird, that is fine, so long as the facts within it are retained. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.172.130.10 (talk) 01:44, 27 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

OK, have edited this section to provide more context User talk:Teraplane —Preceding undated comment added 07:54, 1 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

I removed the link to this article http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/nsw/sydney8217s-message-to-lord-mayor-clover-moore-we8217re-over-your-bikes/story-fni0cx12-1226721346780. A study by MediaWatch showed it's statisitcs to be flawed with a very small sample size for the entire greater metropolitan Sydney, and taken on two of the wettest days on record http://www.abc.net.au/mediawatch/transcripts/s3854796.htm User talk:Teraplane —Preceding undated comment added 07:45, 1 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Citations

edit

This article has many requests for citations. But not every sentence can include a link to a supporting web page. For example in 'Other Groups' section "Others exist as Facebook groups including I Love Sydney Bike Lanes and Cycleways.[citation needed]" It is very easy to verify these groups exist on Facebook, but probably not good practice to provide links to them. I have tried to add more context, when a citation was requested. Have removed over zealous requests for citations. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Teraplane (talkcontribs) 08:27, 1 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Please leave the links under the internet section. The Sydney Cyclist page I link to was a precursor to this page being created. Many of the references in this page come from Sydney Cyclist. Topics in this page continue to be regularly discussed there. They provide a reciprocal link which directs traffic to Wikipedia, surely something we should encourage. It may be removed if our link to them keeps disappearing.

Same goes for bicycle recycling links. It is important to allow readers access to the resources that helps them recycle bikes in Sydney. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Teraplane (talkcontribs) 23:01, 2 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

I have studied the link criteria also. I find that the links to http://www.sydneycyclist.com/ comply with section of both WP:ELYES and WP:ELMAYBE,4. Sites that fail to meet criteria for reliable sources yet still contain information about the subject of the article from knowledgeable sources. It also complies with WP:ELOFFICIAL especially 2. The linked content primarily covers the area for which the subject of the article is notable. The link as been there for at least 5 years without anyone ever complaining about it. So on that basis I paln to restore the link, but in citation format as you suggest.

I agree that we can ditch the FB page, I Love Sydney Bike Lanes and Cycleways. I am also happy with all the business link removals you did, others placed most of these.

I would also like to put back the bike recycling section. But will rewrite this as a paragraph of explanation followed by several citations pointing to the specific sites. Agree a simple list of links is not an acceptable format. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Teraplane (talkcontribs) 08:04, 5 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
