I've just seen the D-Lightsys page I've edited might be subject to speedy deletion. I already modified some adjectives that I hadn't noticed, and they were not in the spirit of Wikipedia, I admit. But now it seems to me, the article is. I made a brief history of this firm and published some of it's research on Fiber Optics, and I intended on bringing some more (which I thought was in the encyclopedia spirit). I think it's useful for Wikipedia to expand it's data on this new technology and D-Lightsys is doing a lot in this domain! Thank you for understanding, 12Gooner89 (talk) 12:39, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
- You need to establish the firm's notability. Why is it important that it be kept in a world encyclopedia? You can do this by using 3rd party independant articles. See WP:COMPANY for information on the guidelines I am refering to.--TParis00ap (talk) 17:38, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
As seen on the article, the workers of D-Lightsys and especially its founder Matthias Pez publish a lot of studies. I have annexed 4 of those in the article which were published by Harvard, the US Army, the French CNES and Alcatel. These sources are obviously notable. Therefore a D-Lightsys article has most definitely it's place in a world enclopedia as it contributes in the research on new fiber optic technology. 12Gooner89 (talk) 20:42, 21 August 2009 (UTC) I've read press release also helps establishing the firm's notability, and I've just remembered that Les Echos (a very famous French economic newspaper) had written an article on D-Lightsys. Which means independant third parties are interested in fiber optic development and research such has this one. This company came from Thales, which is one of the world leader firms in the avionic and satellite business. Here's the article: http://archives.lesechos.fr/archives/2004/LesEchos/19097-130-ECH.htm 12Gooner89 (talk) 21:07, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
- Alright, you've convinced me. But then we need to fix the article to look like like advertising and more like an important corporate figure in the Fiber Optic industry. Just want to correct one thing, Wikipedia:COMPANY specifically says press releases are not independent coverage. However, the French Economic Newspaper article is. You're going to need to include something from the article in paper into this Wikipedia article that can be used to cite it's notability though. We're going to need to Wikify it too. In the meantime, I will remove the speedy del template and set a watch to this page. I'll help you with this as best I can not knowing anything about the company.--TParis00ap (talk) 21:13, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
- I made several edits and commented out some questionable material. Are you an employee of this company? You need to keep WP:COI and WP:NPOV in mind here. Talking about the products and what is unique about them is advertising. Talking about the company itself is where the article needs to be focused. Try reading some other articles like Home Depot and Microsoft and Burger King to get an idea what is needed. If you are an employee, you can still contribute, but you need to be very critical of yourself. It's very much looked down upon.--TParis00ap (talk) 21:24, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
Thank you very much for your help, so I'll keep working on this article to improve it. And no I'm not an employee of D-Lightsys, I study engineering in France and I'm particularly interested in fiber optic. It's one of my teachers that told me to make some research on what this company does, as it is very innovating! 12Gooner89 (talk) 20:22, 22 August 2009 (UTC)
