DCUP is an important chemical
edit60 000 tons of dialkyl peroxides are produced annually by industry. DCUP is the main one. So I figured that the chemical is at least as significant as the musician who is also called DCUP. Chemists, polymer people, engineers, safety people, environmentalists, etc are expecting to read about the peroxide when they search DCUP, so I am trying to help them.--Smokefoot (talk) 17:25, 30 October 2022 (UTC)
- I've asked for this undiscussed pagemove to be reverted at WP:RMT. See WP:RM for how to nominate potentially controversial pagemoves. 162 etc. (talk) 17:29, 30 October 2022 (UTC)
Requested move 31 October 2022
edit- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: not moved. Arbitrarily0 (talk) 03:45, 8 November 2022 (UTC)
– DCUP to become disambiguation because it is an acronym for a commercial chemical, and we can surely use this entertainer's full name for the new target Smokefoot (talk) 15:38, 30 October 2022 (UTC) This is a contested technical request (permalink). GeoffreyT2000 (talk) 03:18, 31 October 2022 (UTC)
- Smokefoot Why is an administrator and not a regular page mover required for this? I can't see any obvious protection in place. -Kj cheetham (talk) 15:51, 30 October 2022 (UTC)
- Kj cheetham Because I dont know what I am doing. Duncan MacLennan directs to DCUP, which is the page I want to become a disambiguation page. A simple page move wont work. I tried a cut-and-paste move, but that effort was rebuffed, and I was sent to this site.--Smokefoot (talk) 16:19, 30 October 2022 (UTC)
- Comment: The musician's name Duncan MacLennan is not being infringed on. --Smokefoot (talk) 19:14, 31 October 2022 (UTC)
- Why not move DCUP to DCup (DJ) it isn't an acronym. In ictu oculi (talk) 16:32, 30 October 2022 (UTC)
- In ictu oculi Very clever. Is the goal to help or to spar? Always an issue with Wikipedia. I will try the move.--Smokefoot (talk) 17:04, 30 October 2022 (UTC)

- The goal is WP:CRITERIA, but as this isn't an acronym he should be at DCup and a dab. In ictu oculi (talk) 12:00, 31 October 2022 (UTC)
- Administrator not needed. GeoffreyT2000 (talk) 16:43, 30 October 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose. I've added a hatnote. The Australian music producer is the primary topic. 162 etc. (talk) 16:50, 30 October 2022 (UTC)
- Note The requester's bold move to DCup (DJ) was reverted by Robertsky. GeoffreyT2000 (talk) 03:22, 31 October 2022 (UTC)
- It was reverted at the request of @162 etc. at WP:RM/TR. – robertsky (talk) 06:45, 31 October 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose. The very faint possibility of confusion can be handled by putting a hatnote above the Australian DJ's biography, pointing to the chemical page. Binksternet (talk) 04:19, 31 October 2022 (UTC)
- Question How common is it for the chemical to be called "DCUP"? Like is that just an occasional acronym, or is it the standard way it's called in industry or commerce? DMacks (talk) 04:21, 31 October 2022 (UTC)
- Comment 60 million(!!) kilograms of organic peroxides of this type are produced annually (Ullmann's Encyclopedia of Chemical Tech), and DCUP is the main derivative. 60 million kilograms is a lot, and correspondingly many chemists, toxicologists, engineers, polymer people, environmentalists would benefit from reading about this chemical, which is colloguially called DCUP. It is used to make polymers. The weight of the chemical produced is greater than the combined weight of Duncan MacLennan fan base (I am guessing). It just seems irresponsible to let some musician's initials trump the short name for a major chemical.--Smokefoot (talk) 13:39, 31 October 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose. WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, and it doesn't appear like the chemical is commonly called DCUP anyway. This document doesn't mention that acronum even once. — Amakuru (talk) 18:39, 7 November 2022 (UTC)
