Combine DO-178B and DO-178C
editThe article about RTCA/DO-160 is an example of how this article might appear. Since the name of the document is the same regardless of the revision letter, combining them makes sense.
In the event hearsay about revision C has value ... The last word I heard about revision C, is that differences from revision B were scant except for the sections of revision B, about which little knowledge or experience existed when revision B was published. These differences pertained to Commercial-Off-The-Software (COTS), Formal Methods, and to the use of Computer-Aided Software Engineering (CASE) tools. RTCA/DO-178C was scheduled for publication (at one point) at the end of 2009.
RTCA/SC-167, the committee that produced revision B, was comprised of representatives whose native languages and cultures differ. They also represented different regulatory agencies and governments. This delay doesn't surprise me (having worked as a member of that RTCA Special Committee) and is not (IMO) negative in any way. RTCA employees and volunteers are responsible for administration and logistics, not for content. Kernel.package (talk) 07:54, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
The document architecture shown in the article differs substantially from the architecture inherent to RTCA/DO-178B. Because of this, a third article that is focused on RTCA/DO-178A may be appropriate, as might a disambiguation page (of a sort) that links to all three. Revision B was a vastly different from revision A. (Revision B has been in effect for 18 years). Kernel.package (talk) 08:04, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
Criticism section -> Background
editThe Criticism section mentions criticism of DO-178B but does not touch on criticisms of DO-178C. I am tentatively changing that section name to "Background" (and moving it appropriately). I don't think "Background" is the best section name, but it is more appropriate for the text than "Criticism". Just to be clear I am disputing anything, just doing some moving around.
