Builder: Daihatsu
editI'm confused on the timeline.
The infobox says the builder of these landing craft was Daihatsu and that they were used during World War 2 (1939 to 1945); but according to the "About Daihatsu" and history pages at http://www.daihatsu.com/company/outline/history/1960s.html and at http://www.dhtd.co.jp/en/company/history.html , the company would have been named "Hatsudoki Seizo Co.,Ltd." at the time, and it wasn't until Dec 1951 that they changed their name to "Daihatsu Motor Co., Ltd.".
Based on that disconnect, I am curious if the manufacturer then actually Hatsudoki Seizo Co., or was "Daihatsu" originally a subsidiary-type company within Hatsudoki Seizo Co.? Or, alternately, was the original use of the name "Daihatsu" just for the landing craft, and the company later renamed itself after that landing craft (seems less likely, but could be the case).
Does anyone have a resource that can help clarify the history / timeline of both this article and the Daihatsu article? --- Barek (talk • contribs) - 23:17, 6 December 2011 (UTC)
- The Daihatsu company web site, as of February 2024, includes a Daihatsu History presentation. https://www.daihatsu.com/company/history/E_history110/
- The section titled
vol 2 1920 onward
contains this text: - The company first used the term “Daihatsu” in its product names in 1930, when it entered the three-wheel vehicle market. The company also named the diesel engine launched in the same year the “Daihatsu Diesel Engine.” 27.33.30.98 (talk) 19:43, 4 February 2024 (UTC)
