Notability

edit

252,000 Google hits 1,860,000 Yahoo hits. And notability questioned? Read the sources. --ClemRutter (talk) 10:40, 16 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

Don't know where you got these numbers from. When I searched on "dale youth boxing" I got 2150 ghits, hardly an overwhelming number. In addition, the two sources are not significant enough to meet WP:GNG. One is an architectural diagram from 2012 that mentions the club will be on the ground floor (described as "a very small facility") and the other is one of the many articles on the impact of the Grenfell Tower fire. I didn't say the club wasn't notable, but rather that it needed more to show it was. I still feel that way. If you have more sources, please add them. Papaursa (talk) 03:26, 23 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
I ran the google check again on the title (not truncated) and this morning got "About 167,000 results (0.71 seconds)", Yahoo is up to 1,890,000. (Using Firefox and Chromium on Linux) this gives "The famous amateur boxing club – which spawned the likes of James DeGale, George Groves and Daniel Dubois – is run by Delaney. He was last in the gym just hours before the fire started in the tower block that sits above it. " I don't do sport articles, and my cynicism for it is high- but it appears in the amateur boxing world it is very important, and these are world champions and household names.
Indeed this states "2008 Olympic gold medallist and current IBF world champion DeGale tweeted: "Shocked at devastation at #GrenfellTower block where my old amateur club Dale Youth is."My thoughts are with everyone affected." Meanwhile, current WBA titleholder Groves also spoke of his sadness after news of the fire broke overnight."
If a topic has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject, it is presumed to be suitable for a stand-alone article or list. Is it worthy of notice? A West London Gym that produces boxers rarely enters my universe- but there is an article there about based on its longevity, the technique of the trainer its Olympic champions, and the boxers themselves. That is what WP:GNG is about- as well as my architectural interest, and the 'generosity of RBKC in upgrading their facilities'. It is a topic that will be pulling hits for years to come as the enquiry drags on - I hope someone else picks up the stub and can develop it.ClemRutter (talk) 08:16, 23 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
  • I came here after finding an article on the BBC News site today about the effort to build a new gym for the club, and did some recasting of the article in the course of adding it. I've now added the Boxing News ref from above - it lists another notable boxer who was trained there. Yngvadottir (talk) 21:28, 15 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
