Should hold the line
editThis is a very important area, and is set to become even more so, so it's been shamefully neglected. Hope this'll help for now. Yet to add a little piece on Restaurants (I have a couple of favourites, would be nice to get an interior pic of the Shanghai), external links and maybe a small history piece.

- Hi Tarquin, agree to restaurants - Shanghai is rated as one of the best Chinese in London by Square Meal and Gilbert and George can be found most nights in the Mangal.
- Ridley Road market was featured in The Apprentice last week.Piersmasterson 10:56, 27 February 2006 (UTC)
- And the Shanghai is a Grade II listed building (loads of those in Stokie or Old Dalston to the east, but not many at the Junction). Really need a pic of that interior. Mangal II was on my list too, though I often end up at the modest Istanbul across the road, easier to get a table, food almost as good...
- Yeah, Sir Alan knows his markets (well, he is a Hackney lad). Probably one of the most competitive on prices he could have sent them to in East London.
- Anyway, go for it, Piers - I too hope to do some more on Dalston soon, there's also the issue of proposed redevelopment - the old Theatre is under occupation now. Have been updating Stokie mostly, but this is next on the list. Tarquin Binary 17:54, 27 February 2006 (UTC)
Disputed sections
editThe neutrality and factual accuracy of certain sections of the article are clearly in doubt.
- Redevelopment and future -- this section appears to make value judgements on the benefits or otherwise of urban regeneration, uses weasel words and does not cite sources.
- Entertainment -- I have attempted to remove the most glaring impartialities in this section, but further clean-up is probably required.
- Shopping -- this is the section perhaps most in need of serious revision.

- Isn't the use of the adjective "lively" also somewhat subjective? Don't you really mean noisy, disparate, hectic, over-populated, and any one of a number of similar adjectives?Hoovering (talk) 13:07, 29 March 2010 (UTC)
- Can I ask why you are removing impartialities? Sure the objective is an impartial article?46.7.85.68 (talk) 16:34, 10 October 2014 (UTC)
I removed the weasely bits of Redevelopment and future. It's been sitting there untouched and uncommented on for 1.5 yrs. Removed dispute tag from the section. Derekbd (talk) 19:19, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
I feel the Shopping section could be completely removed! All the decent parts are covered much better in the Area profile section. The tone also doesn't sit right. Any thoughts? Theabbotoflondon (talk) 03:39, 19 August 2011 (UTC)
This is well inappropiate and racist: "Recent arrivals include Poles, judging by the numbers of Polish delicatessens now appearing and other stores catering to Polish tastes" — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.34.253.175 (talk) 13:07, 10 February 2013 (UTC)
Reading this article, one gets the impression that Dalston is just another of your everyday inner city villages with a very bland past, rather than being the area described by the Metropolitan Police in Operation Trident, as the "Murder Mile", as well as there being no reference to "The Front Line" in Sandringham Rd. An Historical article about Dalston that fails to mention it's criminal antecedents is a bit like failing to mention Henry VIII's six marriages.
It's also noteworthy that though there is mention of a leper hospital, there is no mention of the German Hospital before someone accuses me of trying to "criminalise" the area. In fact I am surprised that this hospital does not have it's own Wiki page!46.7.85.68 (talk) 15:54, 10 October 2014 (UTC)
