Talk:Dandenong Ranges Botanic Garden

Page move proposed - to Dandenong Ranges Botanic Garden

edit
  1. I propose to move this page to Dandenong Ranges Botanic Garden. Recent sources use this name: [1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6]. The official website says "The Management Plan for the Dandenong Ranges Gardens directs all aspects of management of the gardens, including the Dandenong Ranges Botanic Garden (formerly, the National Rhododendron Garden)," [7]. The gardens are notable for far more than rhododendrons, so the page name is not particularly apt in any case. My view is that this move is un-controversial.
  2. The Category in Commons also needs changing. See: c:Category:National Rhododendron Gardens. There are only three images there (rather surprising), but I have a few that I could add.
  3. Another change is needed to remove the existing re-direct from National Rhododendron Garden (singular) that goes to the article about the town of Olinda. This redirect is not helpful and should be deleted.
  4. Once this cleanup is completed, I will investigate some additions to the article, to cover the interesting history of the gardens.

Thanks for your note on my talk page. Probably best that I reply here:

  • Re 1: Now that you've asked for input, you might as well wait a few days and see whether any page watchers want to chip in. If you hadn't asked the question, it would have been fine to just move it and post the above as a rationale, but given that you did ask, it's better to wait.
  • Re 2: Commons and WP are separate entities. They don't have to align. Regardless of the outcome of this discussion, I've moved the Commons entry (it's a less ambiguous name anyway).
  • Re 3: Curiously, Olinda makes no mention of a Rhododendron Garden. I'd be inclined to point the redirect to this article.
  • Re 4: Go for it now; no need to wait for a page move.

Thanks. The page about Olinda I meant to link is Olinda, Victoria, and this does mention the gardens. It will require minor amendments following the proposed page move.--Marshelec (talk) 06:08, 23 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
