On November 30th 2013 it was anounced that Daniel is to play the part of british olympian Sebastian Coe in the film with working title "Gold". The film about the athlete's quest for olympic gold and rivalry with fellow athlete Steve Ovett in the 1980 Moskou games is to be recorded and released in 2014. Filmography section proposal

I have a problem with the filmography section. It is labeled "Filmography", but goes on to have subsections like "Film", "Television", and "Stage", two of which are not filmography and one of which is implied by the foresection. TV credits are not part of a filmography and Stage credits are definitely not. I propose changing only the main section heading from filmography to "Credits" like in the Ian McKellen article, or something of that nature. Thoughts? Rilech (talk) 05:06, 7 April 2014 (UTC)

Minor error in text -- please fix

Hello, I don't have the ability to edit this article, so this is a request to someone with editing permissions to make a small typo correction.

In the bio, it says: "Radcliffe reprised his role for the fourth time in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007), "

This should be corrected to say 'for the fifth time'. I'm pretty sure the Order of the Phoenix was the fifth movie.

Not a big deal, but why not be accurate.

Is "militant" atheist really something Daniel Radcliffe stands behind? It seems to defy the most central message of the Harry Potter Series, that what is most important is to not abuse ones power. Maybe "atheism that stands up for itself" would be more accurate? What I'm suggesting is that he should be given the chance to phrase his religious views explicitly for the context of an encyclopedia, rather than making the page yet another magazine-level coverage. "Religion = None" vs. "Religion = Atheist" or "Religion = None (atheist)" in infoboxes.

Per WP:BRD and WP:TALKDONTREVERT, This comment concerns this edit and this revert.

There are many reasons for not saying "Religion = Atheist" or "Religion = None (atheist)" in Wikipedia infoboxes. They include:


It implies something that is not true

Saying "Religion = Atheist" or "Religion = None (atheist)" in Wikipedia infoboxes implies that atheism is a religion. It is like saying "Hair color = Bald", "TV Channel = Off" or "Type of shoe = Barefoot".
"Atheism is a religion like not collecting stamps is a hobby." --Penn Jillette
"Atheism is a religion like abstinence is a sex position." --Bill Maher

It is highly objectionable to many atheists.

Many atheists strongly object to calling atheism a religion,[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9] and arguments such as "atheism is just another religion: it takes faith to not believe in God" are a standard argument used by religious apologists.[10][11][12][13][14][15][16][17][18][19]

It goes against consensus

This was discussed at length at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Archive 142#Changing "Religion = none" to "Religion = Atheist" on BLP infoboxes. Opinions were mixed, but the two positions with the most support were "Religion = None" or removing the Religion entry entirely.
More recently, it was discussed at Template talk:Infobox person#Religion means what?, and again the consensus was for "Religion = None".
I have changed "Religion: Atheist" to "Religion: None:" on hundreds of Wikipedia infoboxes, and have received multiple "thank you" notifications for doing so. In only a tiny minority of the edits has anyone objected to or reverted the edit, and in every case so far the consensus after discussion was for "Religion = None". I am confident that if anyone post an WP:RFC on the subject the result will be the same.

It is unsourced

If anyone insists on keeping "Religion = Atheist" or "Religion = None (Atheist)" in any Wikipedia infobox, they must first provide a citation to a reliable source that established that the individual is [A] An atheist, and [B] considers atheism to be a religion. There is at least one page that does have such a source: Ian McKellen. Because we have a reliable source that establishes that Ian McKellen considers atheism to be a religion, his infobox correctly says "Religion: Atheist". In all other cases, the assertion that atheism is a religion is an unsourced claim.

It attempts to shoehorn too much information into a one-word infobox entry

In the article, there is room for nuance and explanation, but in the infobox, we are limited to concise summaries of non-disputed material. Terms such as "atheist", "agnostic", "humanist", "areligious", and "anti-religion" mean different things to different people, but "Religion = None" is perfectly clear to all readers, and they can and should go to the article text to find out which of the subtly different variations of not belonging to a religion applies.

It violates the principle of least astonishment.

Consider what would happen if Lady Gaga decided to list "Banana" as her birth date. We would document that fact in the main article with a citation to a reliable source (along with other sources that disagree and say she was born on March 28, 1986). We would not put "Birth date = Banana" in the infobox, because that would cause some readers to stop and say "wait...what? Banana is not a birth date...". Likewise we should not put anything in an infobox that would cause some readers to stop and say "wait...what? Atheism is not a religion..."

In many cases, it technically correct, but incomplete to the point of being misleading.

When this came up on Teller (magician), who strongly self-identifies as an atheist, nobody had the slightest problem with saying that Teller is an atheist. It was the claim that atheism is a religion that multiple editors objected to. Penn Jillette wrote "Atheism is a religion like not collecting stamps is a hobby", so we know that Penn objects to having atheism identified as a religion.
In the case of Penn, Teller and many others, they are atheists who reject all theistic religions, but they also reject all non-theistic religions, and a large number of non-religious beliefs. See List of Penn & Teller: Bullshit! episodes for an incomplete list. Atheism just skims the surface of Penn & Teller's unbelief.

This is really not relevant to his life story, his fame, his career, or even things which he speaks out about. The source is a gay lifestyle magazine interview; this is not something he brings up on his own. The majority of British Expatriates in the United States do not renounce their British citizenship, perhaps chiefly because - so far - they are not required to do so when becoming naturalized citizens of the USA. That applies equally to other countries where dual citizenship is not prohibited. 2016 Racist friends admission in Imperium Interview

Radcliffe admitted in an interview that he has racist friends. This admission attracted some critique. I've added twice and have had my additions removed. Even included a citation. This content is important and Will/Should be added as its newsworthy. The excuse that it's not notable is ridiculous. I think the IP has hit the nail on the head. The inclusion is retaliatory, added solely because Radcliffe criticised Rowling, nothing more. Unlike the topic of Rowling's anti-transgender activism, Radcliffe's description of some of his friends (not the "many friends", added by HPDH4) fails the ten-year test; it even fails the four-year test! If we were to include something on this, it would need wider coverage, and would need to be presented in context - more on Imperium, Radcliffe calling out Hollywood's racism at the time, feeling sick at having to use racial slurs in the role, etc. A bald "Radcliffe has racist friends!" is disingenuous cherrypicking. Well put, Bastun. I do appreciate HPDEATHLYHALLOWS4 finding additional sources (although they should have been brought to the discussion here as part of gaining consensus), but I don't think those sources support the incident four years ago having sufficient impact or significance to be WP:DUE. The HuffPost essay merely uses Radcliffe's quote as a launch pad to discuss the larger question of what it means to be an ally. And the GOOD article (I'm not familiar with that site) merely offers two pseudonymous tweets to support that "a lot of people found this comment upsetting." Age of rise to fame

I realize this is a comparatively minor point, but the article currently states he "rose to fame at age 12".

Given that he had just turned 11 when he was announced to have got the part (Aug 21 2000 per https://edition.cnn.com/2000/WORLD/europe/08/22/potter.casting/index.html) and it was a press frenzy from then on, it could be argued he rose to fame at the age of 11. In fact, he was still 11 when the film concluded principal photography, per the Philospher's Stone article.
