Talk:Danvers State Hospital

Latest comment: 6 years ago by Canonblack in topic History section is a mess

Sounds like hearsay?

edit

Great article thus far; could you please provide a citation or other substantiation for the text below? As-is it has the hallmarks of hearsay and urban legend, and will likely be removed.

there have been stories of former patients returning to the hospital in hopes of residency [...] teenagers have broken into the hospital and have found themselves attacked by the patients

Thanks!

Removed offending text (for now)

No response to above request to clarify unattributed material.

Please avoid weasel words like "there have been stories of..." If indeed "teenagers have broken into the hospital and have found themselves attacked by the patients," then please indulge the Wikipedia Policy of verifiability by citing your sources.

Thanks!

Stories of hauntings and other general badness

edit

I live in Middleton, and my house is a two minute drive from the hospital. I find it odd this page doesn't mention the supposed ghosts and patient abuse that may have occurred at the hospital GreatGatsby 04:22, 16 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

The threshold for inclusion in Wikipedia is verifiability, not truth. If ghosts or patient abuse are part of the mystique of Danvers State Hospital it must be documented somewhere. Please find reliable sources and add it yourself, citing them as you go. So go ahead and be bold - without contributing to urban legend in the process. Ever since Avalon bought this place and turned it into condo's on a national trust, how can people like there, it's haunted.--Oxforduniversity1 (talk) 04:44, 13 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

I personally don't like the demolition photos on there, it really needs more dressing on the old state hospital like artist before Avalon Bay bought the place but what it was before in my view. There are countless of pictures of Danvers State Hospital before 2005.--Oxforduniversity1 (talk) 20:03, 13 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Weird New England

edit

I have done a little bit of cleaning up in light of information from both the aforementioned book as well as an article from the linked Globe article about the fire. The book mentions a figure in of "up to 2,600" in the 1940s and 1950s; therefore, I have removed the fact tag on that figure.

As for the "official" name of "State Lunatic Asylum at Danvers," the Globe article mentions the name; however, it never states that it was the official name. I will leave that fact tag in place. ToddC4176 00:28, 8 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Registered Historic Places in Mass.?

edit

This was recently added to the category for List of Historic Places in Massachusetts... considering it's been demolished, is that possible? Is part of it still standing? It seems unclear to me. -Midnightdreary 05:09, 1 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Egon Spangler?

edit

No one caught the final bullet under "Trivia" that mentioned that 2 people caught a ghost and it was being researched at Harvard by Egon from The Ghostbusters? I deleted it, so it's not there anymore, but I hope the mods are wary of it, should it come back. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.138.43.151 (talk) 00:11, 9 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

History section is a mess

edit

The History section of this article needs heavy editing. Unfortunately, I'm not familiar enough with the subject matter to work on it. But hopefully someone who is will step up. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jpramas (talkcontribs) 22:13, 27 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

I came in to see if this was ever addressed, and found that on 18 May 2016‎ anon 205.123.55.183 simply blanked the section. That's not cleanup, and it's darn near vandalism. This is an historical site, a history section should be the meat and potatoes of this article. As it stands, the history section is two very short sentences. I move the May 2016 deletion be restored in its entirety. It appears that someone had rather distilled it from its bloated former self before this anon—whose only WP activity was to blank that section—intervened. If there are no dissenting opinions in a week or so, I will revert the deletion. I'm astonished no one challenged the removal. Canonblack (talk) 19:59, 21 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Someone should probably take a look, some of the grammar is atrocious, and if no one gets to it in a couple days I'll clean it up myself. Thanks.
