Rename this page
editOn the Wikipedia:Requested moves page, I requested that this article be renamed Daphni Monastery.--The Fat Man Who Never Came Back 11:54, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
- What's the point? It treats the ancient shrine as well. --Ghirla -трёп- 13:25, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
Sorry, I didn't make reason clear. My reasoning was that Daphni is a far more common spelling and that "Dafni" by itself is a common place name throughout Greece and does not refer exclusively (or primarily) to the Daphnion monastery (which is the exclusive focus of this article). I believe Dafni commonly refers to a municipality (and metro stop) in Athens as well as a number of villages.--The Fat Man Who Never Came Back 14:57, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
- If you propose to move Dafni to Daphni, then I heartily support such a move. --Ghirla -трёп- 15:20, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
If this article were about Dafni the neighborhood/municipality/suburb, then such a move would be sufficient. But this article is only about the monastery. Thus, it should be moved to Daphni Monastery.--The Fat Man Who Never Came Back 16:16, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
Use English: call it Daphne Monastery. Septentrionalis 19:41, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
- Support moving to Daphni Monastery. Mangojuicetalk 15:27, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
- Support moving to Daphni Monastery. Although it looks like no standard exists when I scan through similarly categorized articles, the reasoning stated here seems solid. —Wknight94 (talk) 03:22, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
I have moved the page, it seems pretty logical and gained full support. I suggest, however, that someone goes through the article and makes the name consitent. At the moment, it is called Dafni and Daphnion. Use Daphni Monastery whenever referring to it. Thanks --liquidGhoul 01:50, 19 July 2006 (UTC)
Ghirlandajo's complaint about orphaning important articles
editOkay, I piped all the unambiguous links which previously pointed to Dafni. Ghirla's solution to leave the Dafni page redirecting to the monastery page was dubious, since, of the ~15 links I fixed, only one was meant to point to the monastery. One of them was actually meant to point to Dafni (Amaliada), Greece while a few of them were referring to obscure places called Dafni that don't have articles. The vast majority of Dafni links were actually meant to point to the suburb Dafni (Athens), Greece.
Interestingly, no one has written an article about the area of Chaidari known as Dafni, where the Daphni Monastery and Dafni forest are located.
I could not figure out what the Dafni references in the following articles referred to:
Maybe one of you can help.--The Fat Man Who Never Came Back 15:33, 19 July 2006 (UTC)
