First community

edit

I've just added Sark as the first Dark Sky Community (with a reference), then noticed Borego Springs is also a Dark Sky Community (and has been since 2009). Can anybody shed any light on the discrepancy? (as it were) Moonraker12 (talk) 15:43, 2 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

he Dark Skies of Cherry Springs State Park

edit

Is Cherry Springs State Park in Pennsylvania a Dark Sky Park? See, for example: http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/stateparks/findapark/cherrysprings/cherrysprings-darkskies/index.htm

Should it be added to the list of Dark Sky places in this article? Thanks! --Lbeaumont (talk) 13:38, 27 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Updates to International Dark Sky Places listings / COI

edit

I have updated the listed Dark Sky Parks, Reserves, and Communities to reflect the current roster on IDA's website (http://www.darksky.org/international-dark-sky-places/about-ids-places).

I should also note that I am an IDA staffer and made the changes after it was brought to my attention that the list of Dark Sky Places in this article was factually incorrect. I would like to contribute information that will improve the quality of IDA-related pages on Wikipedia. I am aware of Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, including guidance on COI, and I will abide by them.

My edits will be restricted to talk pages except in cases as with Dark Sky Places where the nature of the change is to correct factual inaccuracies. Otherwise, I will not engage in editing directly any IDA-related page. Instead, I would volunteer information on the talk pages, and ask for Wikipedians' help.

To contact me, please leave a message on my talk page [1], or e-mail me directly at john@darksky.org

Niue is now a dark sky nation as of 2020

edit

The island of Niue was named a dark sky nation as of 2020 but it’s not noted in this article, just in the article about the island of Niue. 2601:18A:C500:2460:EC39:3E16:58AC:D157 (talk) 14:32, 1 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

New Name Declared

edit

The organization is as DarkSky International now named.

Thanks for reading. -- Apisite (talk) 22:41, 9 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Here's an article explaining the new version of the website: https://darksky.org/news/welcome-to-our-new-website/

Thanks again for following the news. --Apisite (talk) 08:44, 30 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

It looks like there is still some way to go before the transition to the new name is complete. The labels on website links still say International Dark Sky Association. The relevant Wikipedia policy is WP:COMMONNAME, and in particular WP:NAMECHANGES. This policy means that the new name needs to appear consistently and for a reasonable period in independent and reliable published sources before the page name of this article is changed. I will keep a watch on this, and if no-one else acts before me, I will move the page to the new name, once it is clear that the new name is in widespread use in independent news sources and similar publications.Marshelec (talk) 09:29, 30 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
