Date of birth

edit

Was he born in 1955 or 1960? The official date is apparently 1960, but recently it was changed to 1955. Maybe the person who changed it has an inside scoop and knows Hammond's older than he says he is. Personally I'd like to see a source for it, though. Everyking 13:23, 1 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

He was born in 1955. He graduated High School in 1974, so it would have been impossible for him to have been born in 1960. Also, in a 1997 interview, he stated that he was 42 years old. IMDB is wrong, they say he was born in 1960, not true. Many theories exist as to why Hammond's real age isn't widely known. Some think that it was SNL Producer Lorne Micheals who attempted to make Hammond seem younger than he really is, in order to appeal more to SNL's younger fans. Someone has changed his DOB back to 1960 (and the year of his graduation to 1973). I'd be surprised if Hammond had graduated high school at 13 and this extraordinary fact were left out of his other biographies. Does anyone have a reliable source for either set of dates? -- Heath 24.127.52.67 04:46, 4 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
Wouldn't call it *reliable* but this is simply a mish-mash of facts that together suggest 1955 is the right DOB. According to http://the.honoluluadvertiser.com/article/2007/May/19/en/FP705190305.html he was added to the SNL cast at age 39 and has been doing SNL for 12 years making him 51 now...if he's 51 now he was born late in '55...and we know he was born late in the year. If people find other references to him joining SNL at 39 (or 34 if 1960, of course) then it can be taken as read that iMDB is in fact wrong. I have found a lot of sites via google that say he was 39, however you know how copyright-ignorant these sites can be, and they just change a few words to make it look like their own :-)
However, IMDB says 1955 not 1960...Borroughs is wrong in his stating that IMDB says 1960 (although that might have been changed since). Someone else has already edited wiki to say 1955 so I won't make any changes SmUX 21:33, 9 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Rehab

edit

In the main SNL Article it says he was in rehab for a time. Anyone know why?--Crestville 22:31, 26 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

He has talked about being a heavy drinker and, four four months only, a cocaine user. Source: 3-30-2006 The Howard Stern Show. About 3 hours into the show. tharsaile 20:19, 26 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

He was caught with cocaine (I think) on a Caribbean island near Jamaica some years ago and spent a few days in jail before his father picked him up. I don't have the specific dates/locations, though.--Leathlaobhair 15:52, 19 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Al Gore photo

edit

The photo of "Hammond as Gore" that was added today is from today's episode, but that was the actual Gore, not Darrell Hammond. --66.131.119.242 04:52, 14 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Blackface

edit

The article doesn't make mention of the fact that he is one of the few actors in the world to still perform in blackface. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.48.252.68 (talk) 22:49, 1 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Performing in makeup to appear as a different ethnicity than your own is not the same as performing in Blackface. What are you referring to? --PvtDeth (talk) 05:46, 5 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Abuse

edit

The article currently reads: "This trauma from abuse led to cutting, several hospitalizations due to psychiatric issues, and diagnoses which include bipolar disorder and schizophrenia." I question if abuse actually causes cutting, multiple psychiatric holds, etc. Perhaps bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, rather than abuse, lead to cutting and psychiatric holds. Bipolar disorder is known to run in families which he perhaps inherited from his mother. BCDS88 (talk) 00:52, 20 January 2013 (UTC) BCDS88 01/19/2013BCDS88 (talk) 00:52, 20 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

It's properly sourced. Your personal opinion is irrelevant unless you refute the sentence with a reliable source about Hammond, not just the issues of abuse and cutting in general. Cresix (talk) 01:51, 20 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Is there not a better photo than the scowling one currently in use? We should put a little more effort into finding something professional, imho Catherinejarvis (talk) 17:00, 13 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
