Notes about David Eldon

edit

I have noted on the Wikipedia page for David Eldon a box which reads:

This biographical article needs additional citations for verification, as its only attribution is to self-published sources; articles should not be based solely on such sources. Please help by adding reliable, independent sources. Contentious material about living people that is unsourced or poorly sourced must be removed immediately. (February 2013)

I have no idea how the page came to be created; it certainly wasn't by me. The only changes I have made to the page are changes of fact. job titles, roles, and poor use of the English language. I would not seek to ask people to "independently verify" those facts.

As you are clearly uncomfortable with the "source" of the information, and as I did not ask for a Wikipedia page, perhaps you would advise me how to remove it.

It could be removed only by listing it at articles for deletion following the detailed instructions there. At least one step can only be completed by a logged-in user, but frequent editors will normally do this on behalf of an editor who does not log in. However, an article about a notable person will not normally be deleted unless there is a good reason to do so. The desire of the subject is not normally considered a good reason, unless the page is disparaging or cannot be verified to reliable sources. If there is inaccurate info here, please indicate what should be changed. If you know of reliable sources that could be used, please indicate what they are. That will be the easiest and best way to get the article into a good state. The note about 'self-published' sources does not mean we think the subject is trying to use Wikipedia for self-publicity (although that does happen quite often). It merely means that the editor(s) who drafted the article as it now stands used sources published by the subject, such as his web site or press releases, without also citing independent reliable sources, and the cure is to find and cite such sources. Those editors can be found in the page history. LG4761 was the initial drafter and did much of the work. Heroeswithmetaphors and most recently Joseph2302 also contributed. By listing and linking to their usernames here, I will have notified those users of the existence of this discussion. DES (talk) 17:27, 22 June 2015 (UTC)Reply
Oh by the way, while you are never required to have an account to comment here or to edit pages, you should know that any edits made without logging in permanently display the IP address used to make those edits. If you create an account and log in, your IP address is not displayed, and the account need not be identified with your legal name. Some people consider publicly listing their IP address to violate their privacy, others do not. DES (talk) 17:27, 22 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hi LG4761, Heroeswithmetaphors and Joseph2302

The page notes that David Eldon is currently Senior Independent Director of Noble Group. This is no longer correct as he retired from the board in 2018: [1]

It also notes that he became Chairman of HSBC Bank Oman in 2013, which is correct, but he stepped down from this position in 2017: [2]

To make the page more up-to-date and accurate the following information could also be included:

  • Non-Executive Chairman of Octopus Holdings Limited [3]
  • Chairman of the Board, HSBC Bank A.S Turkey (see page 2.) [4]
  • The correct citation for the DIFC Higher Board: [5]

It would also be helpful to understand why the BLP template has been added so that additional sources can be provided in order to have this removed Andreweldon852 (talk) 08:35, 9 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
