Plot to kill Elton John

edit

The above section was added by me on the 4th Oct 2023. It was shortly thereafter reverted on the grounds there was no source. I don't know what caused the missunderstanding here, but I definate;y included a source from AP News (Allied Press) and cited it appropriately. As AP is specifically listed by Wikipedia as a reliable source (See Wikipedia Reliable Sources) then I assumed all was good... If I've made an error, then feel free to talk about it here. In the meantime, I have reverted the removal, and ask for it to be left "as is" and discuss any issues here. Thanks. M R G WIKI999 (talk) 02:42, 5 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

On December 22nd 2009 it was first shown and then repeated on the 12th 2010 December

Vaginica story

edit

David Gest appeared on Irish Televishion's Late Late Show. During this appearance, he re-told the story of his maid Vaginica. During this, he stated that she "..married a guy called Harry Ceeman "with a C"". (I'm guessing the spelling Ceeman).

All references to his maid in the press seem to refer to her as "Seaman". —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Dermdaly (talkcontribs) 21:55, 8 December 2006 (UTC). ]]Reply

This story has been told on a number of occassions including8 Out of 10 Cats. DWaterson 22:28, 8 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Cleanup

edit

Needs heavy cleanup work, including removal of point of view statements. - Mickthefish | Talk 16:09, 1 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

edit

I have placed an {{advert}} template on the article, as as it stands the article reads as though it was written by Mr Gest's agent, it is massively favourable POV and full of peacock words. DuncanHill 12:47, 7 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Article has NPOV problems and lacks balance

edit

David Gest is also the source of a high amount of criticism for his grandstanding and less than factual statements regarding his relationship to Liza Minelli. At the least, there should be some reference to this criticsm, as it is so widespread.

Without this, this article *still* appears to have been written by his agent. Someone please rewrite it to achieve balance. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 204.102.2.153 (talk) 19:34, 19 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Vandalism--quit deleting Gest's personal life information

edit

Someone is deleting issues that are releveant to the topic of David Gest. Besides his show-biz accomplishments, do not delete factual information regarding Gest's personal life. This information is true and documented in the article. Deleting it because you don't like it constitutes vandalism.

I have contacted Wikipedia editors to watch this. If it continues, they will put a lock on the site so no one can change it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.103.29.196 (talk) 23:09, 30 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Actually, they won't. The article was brought to AN/I due to IP editors acting in problematic ways. As a result of that AN/I thread, I came in and helped clean house. Other editors at AN/I agreed the article is better cut down to the important facts. Please stop trying to turn this into a fan site for Gest. ThuranX (talk) 23:27, 31 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thuranx. In the same vein, would you stop the Cheryl Cole (or whatever she is now) article from being a fan site for her too? Thanks 78.151.28.116 (talk) 10:58, 13 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

Request for dialogue on Personal life section

edit

Let's stop the edit warring and discuss what should be in David Gest's personal information.

His very public wedding and marriage to Liza Minelli was a well-known, media event. Since he attempted to further publicize it through a cable TV reality show, we should document it in some way. His sad but very public divorce played made media headlines for months. This also needs to be documented.

Can we come to some compromise, rather than deleting work?

Should "Liza Minnelli's Ex" redirect here?

edit

This guy is NOBODY except for his brief, over-publicized marriage to Liza Minnelli. He isn't really a celebrity, just a former hanger-on, and as such is no more deserving of a Wikipedia page than I am. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.10.193.23 (talk) 21:46, 13 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Who the hell is David Gest?

edit

I know this sounds a bit like a trolling thread, but it isn't intended to be. I've seen a fair aomunt of David Gest on TV in recentish times, and it's made me wonder who he is and why he is there. I look him up on Wikipedia, and aside from him being a concert promoter, "media personality" and having known some famous people, has he done anything? Is he just a famous for being famous person or what? I know we have to maintain a neutral point of view, and that's fine, but is there anything at all that can flesh out this article? He surely did something of relevance to wikipedia between his childhood with the Jacksons, and his failed marriage and dismissed lawsuit. Or maybe he does something now? Would reality TV host be more appropriate than "media personality". What does that mean? What has he done? Or does media personality mean he hasn't really done anything? Everything on here seems a bit vague, and if it wasn't someone I did keep seeing on TV, I'd recommend this for deletion, from the info on this page it doesn't look like he is a person of interest or importance to wikipedia. Even if he isn't really famous for any good reason I would think this of note, because otherwise this article doesn't look like it has a reason to be here.Broken godhead (talk) 10:07, 5 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

He was basically a nobody, seemed nice though. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.5.190.255 (talk) 21:03, 12 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

Personal life?

edit

Aside from his marriage to Minnelli, this entry is really silent on the man's personal life which has been the source of speculation for years now. I realize that Wikipedia is careful with BLP but I still expected to see something about other significant relationships in the man's life. I mean, he didn't relocate to the UK just for the hell of it. 69.125.134.86 (talk) 16:28, 1 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Gest asked Elton John what to give Liza Minelli as a wedding gift. Elton's reply was "a heterosexual man". 78.151.28.116 (talk) 11:01, 13 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

The above indicates Gest was homosexual. Wythy (talk) 00:34, 22 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

Three prime-time series

edit

It says "and became the first American to have three prime-time series in the UK" but doesn't reference anything, or say what they are or anything - Is this just some random unverified fact that was inserted for no reason? Lawrie (talk) 08:44, 18 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Actually, as per the instruction at the top of the page to remove anything without references, I am going to remove that because it makes no sense at all! Lawrie (talk) 09:46, 18 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Seems to have been reinserted at random all over the page. Mebbe his publicist milking whatever he can get..213.40.55.89 (talk) 15:28, 12 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

I removed this again - I am assuming that the publicist is no longer being paid to do this! Lawrie (talk) 05:40, 30 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Celebrity for what?

edit

It is peculiar that the "Career" section begins with an appearance on "I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here". To be on that show, don't you already have to be a celebrity? Why was he a celebrity, and should that information not be included in the "Career" section? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.169.184.200 (talk) 03:22, 13 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

Agreed, the intro paragraph states all these claims that are not supported. Seems that his career began when he married Liza.--MattyMetalFan (talk) 17:18, 13 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

Jewish

edit

Why doesn't the article mention he was Jewish? (217.42.28.40 (talk) 13:28, 13 April 2016 (UTC))Reply

I seem to remember reading he was Jewish in an older version which has been removed, for whatever reason 78.151.28.116 (talk) 16:58, 13 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

Last or first?

edit

Gest produced the television special Michael Jackson: 30th Anniversary Celebration: The Solo Years in 2001, which was the last reunion of Michael Jackson and the Jacksons in 17 years.

Either 'the last reunion' or 'the first reunion for 17 years', surely. Valetude (talk) 20:46, 22 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
This article Michael Jackson: 30th Anniversary Celebration says: "This would also become the final concert in which Michael would perform with his brothers onstage." But there's nothing about 17 years. Martinevans123 (talk) 20:53, 22 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
Then it might be 'their first reunion for 17 years, and it would be their last.' But 'the last in 17 years' is meaningless. Valetude (talk) 21:40, 22 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
Tend to agree the meaning is somewhat unclear. Perhaps there's a source that supports the fact it was their first reunion in 17 years. Without one, I'd suggest the 17 years shouldn't be mentioned at all. Martinevans123 (talk) 21:50, 22 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
