Deletion discussion

edit

Thanks for your interest in this article. The reason I created it was because the person involved is currently leader of the Isle of Wight Council. Unlike other areas on the mainland, the local authority covers the entire county, a massive area for a local authority compared to many others with a total population estimated at around 150,000. Since taking up the position the person involved has gained significant press coverage both locally and further afield, initially by laying out very controversial plans to reform the island's education system. More recently he has been involved in situations reguarding an ultimatum supposedly given to Unison branch secretary Mark Chiverton, which later gave him a vote of no confidence on this and the handling of the budget cuts by the council. There's also the issue of the bust up between himself and Andrew Turner's partner Carole. As a result of this continued media attention, together with the size of the local authoriy he is leader of, I would say it meets the second point of notability to the section you linked to in the deletion request.

As it currently stands this is only the start of what I was intending to write on the article, no doubt much more could be said such as the involvement in local political issues, its just it was getting late while I was writing it so decided to stop. If others have anything else to say, please comment. Editor5807speak 13:01, 23 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

I am assuming good faith on your part and have contested the proposed deletion on your behalf. For future reference, if you object to deletion of an article with a prod tag, simply remove the prod tag and place the reason why you object to the deletion in your edit summary or on the talk page (as you did). —KuyaBriBriTalk 15:28, 23 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
Both are irrelevant; see WP:POLITICIAN. I am nominating the article at AfD. Ironholds (talk) 17:16, 23 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
And this "local council" is hardly much larger than others. All county councils and most borough councils deal with a higher number of people; it is not a claim to notability. Ironholds (talk) 17:17, 23 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
