Linux networking performance (Recent Edits by Comte)

This statement "...and has been key in improving its performance in high load environments.[8] [9] " doesn't appear to be backed up by either of the two sources. One is a self-published post by Miller himself, the other doesn't mention Miller at all. Fell Gleaming(talk) 00:13, 19 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

I'm also puzzled by the second one, it could be an error... but also you're right that the first one doesn't count for a peer reviewed opinion just because it was posted on a public mailing list many years ago. I believe there is merit to the statement, but those citations aren't any good. --Joy [shallot] (talk) 09:24, 19 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
Here's the lwn.net quote :
Development kernel 2.1.90pre was released:
I just put a pre-90 on ftp.kernel.org, and I'm happy to report that Davem seems to have found and fixed the TCP performance problem, which means that the code-freeze for 2.2 is going to go into effect shortly..
-- Linus
The first reference is David Miller boasting about his work on tcp performance, the second one is the acknowledgment from Linus. If you can find better ones, be my guest :) Comte0 (talk) 09:40, 19 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
These aren't exactly encyclopedia-level citations, you know :) Perhaps it would be useful to find a (journalistic) review of the Linux TCP/IP stack and/or a comparison with Windows, Solaris, FreeBSD etc and instead link that; I'm sure I saw a few of those that cast a positive light on the Linux maintainers, which would cover this article. --Joy [shallot] (talk) 11:44, 19 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
One thing is clear; the article is head and shoulders above what it was when I first nominated it for deletion. I appreciate the work on your part(s) to improve it. Fell Gleaming(talk) 15:05, 19 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. I have modified the wikiprojects at the beginning of this page accordingly. Comte0 (talk) 15:05, 20 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
