I've reinserted the Boston Context section, since it is important to describe the time which Walker was living in and little is known about Black Boston.Seergenius (talk) 23:48, 7 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

The first four footnotes take us to pages that do not feature David Walker. They desperately need updating.Jswba (talk) 11:45, 27 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Circumstances of death

edit

I know little about David Walker, but in the 2000 book "Slippery Characters: Ethnic Impersonators and American Identities" by Laura Browder, she mentions in passing that he was found dead under "mysterious circumstances," whereas this entry makes no reference to any controversy around his death. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.31.152.159 (talk) 05:08, 4 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Images

edit

Considering adding some images for this page Crabcat (talk) 15:37, 29 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

I've added images in the past, wikieditors keep pulling them down. We gave up that battle so we can win the war on keep David Walker's History accurate and alive. Seergenius (talk) 15:58, 29 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
An image of Walker published before 1923 in the US would be public domain. Binksternet (talk) 16:19, 29 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I know. Unfortunately, there aren't any photos/images available of David Walker (you know radical outspoken black man and lack of camera), however photos of the time are and those were frequently taken down. Seergenius (talk) 16:38, 29 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

http://www.loc.gov/pictures/resource/cph.3c05530/ this image is of Walker's Appeal I would expect to be public domain - its in Library of Congress Crabcat (talk) 14:56, 6 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Images

edit

I saw that there was a problem posting images so I thought I'd check these out on the talk page first. I gathered these images from Encyclopedia Brittanica (which I thought is public domain now) and the images were first published before 1923.

So are we a "go" with these?--CaroleHenson (talk) 01:35, 23 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Well, I just figured out that 1/2 of what I was saying is faulty logic - it's only for 1911 Encyclopedia Britannica articles - and this article wasn't included there. I still think we're good based upon the age of the images - they were published in 1830, but it would be good to be sure before I post them on the article page.--CaroleHenson (talk) 02:12, 23 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Date of Birth

edit

Other sources state that David Walker was born in 1785, while Wikipedia states it as 1796. An article cited is http://www.cfhi.net/DavidWalkerBlackWilmingtonAbolitionist.php which states it as 1785. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Caaaake (talkcontribs) 20:19, 20 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

I added to the note about the date of birth discrepancy with the information you provided. See this edit.--CaroleHenson (talk) 23:39, 20 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

separating the Appeal into its own article

edit

There is a lot of information on the Appeal in this article. Would it not make sense to separate it altogether? I bet I could write a small summary of all the issues and just copy and paste everything from within that subsection into its own proper article. Disambiguation needed

edit

Since there is an article on the Right Reverend David Walker, the Bishop of Manchester, in Wikipedia, should there be an note at the top of this article beginning "For the Bishop of Manchester, see...." In fact, since there are probably several people with the name "David Walker" in Wikipedia, should there be a note about disambiguation? Vorbee (talk) 07:53, 11 October 2019 (UTC) I see that there are quite of people called "David Walker" who have an entry in Wikipedia and there is a disambiguation page. Since, if one does a Google search, one gets to this page, should it have not at the top saying "For other people named David Walker, see..."Vorbee (talk) 17:43, 11 October 2019 (UTC) The article on Anthony Edwards has a note saying "For other people named Anthony Edwards, see Anthony Edwards (disambiguation)". Vorbee (talk) 17:49, 11 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Vorbee: Anthony Edwards has the {{Other people}} note because it uses the primary title. Unlike Anthony Edwards (basketball), Anthony Edwards (rower) or Anthony Edwards (American football). --MarioGom (talk) 21:48, 15 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Quote format

edit

In these two edits I change {{cquote}} to {{quote}}. cquote is not for use in articles, but on user pages and possibly project pages. As per MOS:BLOCKQUOTE: Do not enclose block quotations in quotation marks (and especially avoid decorative quotation marks in normal use, such as those provided by the {{cquote}} template). Block quotations using a colored background are also discouraged.

Please do not restore the use of cquote here. DES (talk)DESiegel Contribs 18:17, 16 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

MOS:CAPS

edit

Please adhere to one and only one style according to MOS:CAPS. You've plainly established that you're prejudiced against "black/white" and you wish "Black" to be capitalized. So the guideline says that "White" must also be capitalized along with it. 2600:8800:1880:68:5604:A6FF:FE38:4B26 (talk) 12:41, 25 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Deisenbe: I hope that you realize that your reverts have left a haphazard, random assortment of capitalization and lowercase in the article, which surely WP:MOS frowns upon. 2600:8800:1880:68:5604:A6FF:FE38:4B26 (talk) 23:41, 10 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
