The result of the move request was: Moved. Good arguments both in support and opposition; however, there is clearly more weight given to there being no clear primary topic for the "Daytona" title. (non-admin closure) Rules of enpagement Paine 05:48, 28 August 2016 (UTC)
Daytona (disambiguation) → Daytona – I very much doubt that Daytona Beach, Florida is the primary topic of "Daytona". For most people, "Daytona" is the Daytona 500, or the Daytona International Speedway. For me (a non-Floridian), searching plain "Daytona" on google brings up results for the race track before any other searches. All three get practically equal amounts of pageviews, with Daytona 500 #1. Yes, the other "Daytona"s derive from Daytona Beach, but I don't believe it registers as immediately being the city to the common person. - Oppose there is no WP:ASTONISHment here, as both the Daytona 500 and the Daytona International Speedway are held/located in Daytona Beach. The city in Florida is the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC for "Daytona" considering long-term significance. SSTflyer 06:29, 11 August 2016 (UTC)
- "Daytona" is used plainly to refer to the speedway, the race, and the city almost equally, with more edge being given to the first two since "Daytona" isn't the city's name. For the record, I disagree that there is no astonishment here. It's why I proposed this move. And one of the three having greater significance is debatable. - Support. No primary topic. So far as usage goes, many around the world who know of the race and/or the speedway would have no idea whether they were named after a city, a beach, or something else... And most of those who have heard of Daytona Beach probably think it's a beach. So far as significance goes, the race may be less significant than the city, but it's arguable, and it's not by much. - Support – Many potential meanings, even if derived from the city. Surprise because the proper and common city name is Daytona Beach. — JFG talk 17:24, 15 August 2016 (UTC)
- Oppose - long-term education significance, primarily, goes in favor of the city. Red Slash 18:52, 19 August 2016 (UTC)
- Support. And, in the interest of enhancing the educational value of the encyclopedia, we should educate our readers that, whereas Miami and Miami Beach are two different cities (the former on the mainland and the latter on barrier islands), there is no "Daytona, Florida". Forcing the disambiguation of Daytona will have the benefit of correcting the name of the city to its proper name, Daytona Beach. – wbm1058 (talk) 12:23, 23 August 2016 (UTC)
- Checking the move log, I find: @ 18:35, 7 March 2007 Recury moved page Daytona to Daytona (disambiguation) (the city is the source of all the other names, so "daytona" should redirect there)
- So we would be reverting a 2007 move. The disambiguation was started in November 2004, and was stable for over two years before being boldly moved. The city may be the source, but keeping the title there leads to violations of the WP:SPECIFICLINK guideline. I've disambiguated this, so it should be an easy close to move this – not much post-move cleanup will be needed.
