The Ghost version used in the Comet had a single air intake at the front, as opposed to the bifurcated (split) one used in the Vampire/Venom aircraft due to these aircraft's air intakes being in the wing roots. Presumably a different front bearing arrangement (wheelcase?) for the impeller/compressor would have been needed for the Comet.
