edit- Dean licenses the Land O' Lakes brand for some products. ENeville 03:27, 19 May 2007 (UTC)
I've removed the claim that Dean Foods sells a majority of the milk sold in the United States. One company webpage says Dean sells "over 2 billion gallons of milk a year", and another says there were 170 billion pounds of milk produced in the U.S. Even with some ambiguity in these numbers, it's hard to get Dean's market share above 20%. On a purely anecdotal level, the milk market seems highly fragmented, and it doesn't seem unlikely that no single producer has more than 20%. 71.247.36.99 02:04, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
If the purpose of the article is to tell what the company is, it fails almost completely. In this case the article appears to have been written only to provide derogatory information. It contains no significant information about the history of the company, its brands, or what it actually does. Such articles depreciate the value of Wikipedia and show so much of the author's bias that the article appears unreliable. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aroundaz (talk • contribs) 21:13, 9 June 2015 (UTC)
It seems that the article could use some work. I will search for bias and delete what is clearly unreliable information. Perhaps I may find some notable information in the company's published financials from the SEC's website. Grammardoc890 (talk) 01:24, 22 December 2016 (UTC)
Merge from White Wave
edit- The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section.
The result was merge into Dean Foods. -- Debate 木 08:16, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
White Wave Foods is (apparently) wholly owned by Dean Foods, and the article has little content. A merge into this article seems appropriate at this time. ENeville 03:30, 19 May 2007 (UTC)
- I completely concur. Gobonobo T C 18:21, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
Borden
editMilk Products, LP owns Borden, according to its website. Does Dean license it, as it does with Land O Lakes?
Merging articles
editThe beauty of Dean Foods is that it has purchased all these fine local brands, has left them more or less autonomous, and has enhanced, not destroyed, these new components. The Dean website itself suggests their formula. While their are obvious links, merging the article does not change the fact that Jilbert's is still Jilbert's (for example), although it is no longer family owned. The character has remained the same. If these other companies are to be merged, they could (at least) be kept as separate sections. Dean Foods has not chosen to 'homogenize' its operation, so to speak, and this article shouldn't do that either. 7&6=thirteen (talk) 19:16, 18 January 2008 (UTC)Stan
Fair use rationale for Image:Dean-logo.gif
editImage:Dean-logo.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
Worth
editMaybe I missed it in the article but does anyone have info on the company's monetary worth? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.142.161.36 (talk) 23:48, 21 December 2008 (UTC)
$1.97 billion, as of today. The market capitalization of the company can change from day to day. Here is a link on Yahoo where you can see it: http://finance.yahoo.com/quote/DF?p=DF Perhaps there is a way to add the market cap so that the page reads a live number? Otherwise someone will have to update it periodically. Grammardoc890 (talk) 01:18, 22 December 2016 (UTC)

These recommendations have been standing since 2013 with no objections. I will start to work on doing these unless someone objects.Grammardoc890 (talk) 01:30, 22 December 2016 (UTC)
"Controversy" and "History" combined. I deleted information about minor squabbles/settlements with employees etc, for not being notable. —Grammardoc— talk 02:53, 22 December 2016 (UTC)
Undue weight to law suits etc removed. It still seems to have a lot more lawsuit/complaint type information than notable encyclopedic information. Does it still have undue weight on lawsuits, or does it just lack sufficient encyclopedic information? —Grammardoc— talk 03:15, 22 December 2016 (UTC)
WhiteWave
editWhiteWave Foods was spun off earlier this year. Press release. Any discussion on that company having it's own article now? --Geniac (talk) 02:01, 12 November 2013 (UTC)
What is the notability of WhiteWave Foods? Once we have established notability, we can certainly create a new page. For guidelines on notability, you can read WP:N, here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Notability Grammardoc890 (talk) 01:14, 22 December 2016 (UTC)

White Wave (and thus Alpro) sold off in 2013
editAs the article on Alpro references, after Dean Foods bought Alpro in 2009 which is listed in the history section, it sold off White Wave in 2013, and thus also Alpro.
The fact that buying Alpro is mentioned while selling it off is not could make it appear as if they still own them.
I'd suggest we either add selling it off, or remove mentioning that they bought it since it no longer pertains to Dean Foods as they are today? Thoughts?
Proposing updates + fixes for inaccuracies
editThis edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
Hi there, I'm here with a handful of updates to fix some inaccuracies in this article. As disclosure, I do have a financial conflict of interest, as I am here on behalf of Dean Foods through my work at Beutler Ink. To start with, I've got a few (hopefully) straightforward edits to propose for the infobox, introduction and History to fix some inaccuracies and add up-to-date factual information:
In the current infobox, key people are no longer correct, products is missing juice, and the financial figures and employee count are 5-6 years old. Below I'm suggesting a new version of the infobox that includes an updated list of key people, financial figures, employees and products (see green text).

- Done This request is complete! Thanks Whoisjohngalt. 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 17:16, 8 August 2017 (UTC)
The current introduction is largely inaccurate. Dean Foods does not maintain international operations (see the company's Annual Report and 10K filing), and the number of U.S. facilities is outdated. I prepared a new draft introduction, which updates this info. Additionally, I have included that Dean Foods is the largest dairy company in the U.S. (per independent sourcing) and a sentence on its brands. New details are shown in green.
- Done This is complete. 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 17:16, 8 August 2017 (UTC)
The article currently mentions Horizon Organic, but—as was noted by User:Interstates above—does not mention that Dean Foods spun off WhiteWave Foods, the marker of Horizon and Silk Soymilk, in May 2013. I'd like to suggest a new sentence to add to the History section, to mark this major change:
- New sentence for History: Dean Foods spun off WhiteWave Foods, the maker of Horizon Organic and Silk Soymilk, as a standalone company in May 2013.[12]
- Done This is complete. 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 17:16, 8 August 2017 (UTC)

Fixes for Products
editThis edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
Hi again. Following my request above, I have a few more small tweaks to update the current information in this article. Once again, this request is on behalf of Dean Foods as part of my work at Beutler Ink.
In the Products section, the summary of products includes inaccurate information, the list of national brands includes some that are incorrect and is missing a newly-added brand. Finally, some details about individual brands are inaccurate.
Specifically:
- In the first paragraph
- Canned foods or condiments can be removed, since Dean Foods does not offer these
- Ice cream, juice and teas are not currently included and can be added
- For the second sentence "produces" isn't the right word here re: milk, my contact at Dean Foods pointed out "cows produce milk, we process it"
- I suggest cutting the line about Land O'Lakes, as it seems odd to highlight this one brand. Also, the details are incorrect since Dean Foods licenses the brand for milk, but not other dairy products
- The National brands list is inaccurate: Fruit Rush and Swiss Premium Tea can be removed and Uncle Matt's Organic juice can be added
- In the Regional brands list:
- Friendly's should be listed after Dean's, to place it in alphabetical order like the other brands, and the copy about the brand is not quite right. The ice cream is the same that is served at Friendly's Restaurants, its flavors are not "based on" ice cream from the restaurants
- Details about Land O'Lakes can be updated to note that it is a licensed brand for milk
- ReadyLeaf Tea can be added
Dean Foods products include frozen and canned foods, dairy products and condiments. It produces milk in the United States under a number of regional and national brands. The company licenses the Land O'Lakes brand, which markets several dairy products.[1]
