Nothing about the stent?

edit

When I heard Dean speak about innovation / inventing, he seemed to indicate the medical stent that deka made was enormously successful and profitable, yet no mention of it here? If there is a reason, I'd love to hear it. Otherwise I'll see what I can add. - Davandron | Talk 19:26, 15 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Plane crash

edit

I added back a bit about a plane crash he was involved in, minus the NTSB report that was included last time this bit of history was in the page. Mattgrommes 21:04, 20 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

The jet he flies cannot travel from coast to coast

edit

East Coast to West Coast is anywhere from 2500-3500 miles. The claim he commutes himself from coast to coast is somewhat difficult to believe. Does he stop for refueling multiple times throughout the day? Is it even plausible for him to make the commute there and back home, including stops for refueling? I believe a fan of his has written with heart, not mind, and ascribed to Mr. Kamen super-hero capabilities. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.16.134.146 (talk) 01:04, 27 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Dean Kamen flies a Beechcraft Premier. It doesn't have the range to go coast to coast but a lot of pilots fly light jets that have to stop for fuel and to stretch their legs along the way. This is very common since most jets that can be operated with a single pilot fall into the light jet category and will not have the range to make it coast to coast. The larger jets that can make it coast to coast almost always require a second pilot per the FAA regulations that they are certified under. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 38.111.0.81 (talk) 23:03, 4 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

He is Jewish

edit

Is that really necessary? If so, it seems oddly placed. And I guess every wiki bio needs a line like that. For George Washington Carver it could be: "George Washington Carver...blah, blah, blah..peanuts...blah, blah, blah. He was black." For George Washington it could be: "1st President of the US...blah, blah, blah...wooden teeth...blah, blah, blah. He was white." --Ddgun (talk) 19:42, 7 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Luke Arm interview

edit

Kamen talked about the Luke arm and F.I.R.S.T. in the following WSJ interview.

Since this interview is chopped into 3 parts, it is awkward to add to the external link section, moved them there if you think this is relevant to the article.

N.B. I think Luke arm refers to Luke Skywalker.

His inventions..?

edit

This page does not even have a section on his inventions. To even find out that he invented the Segway, you have to look in the awards section. It doesn't even mention his iBot system, even though there is a picture of him with Clinton using it. Nothing at all on his kidney dialysis system, or his auto-syringe. This article needs some serious work. 146.115.120.108 (talk) 19:34, 11 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

I thought the same thing and searched the history for a version of the article with his inventions. I found one. It appears that it was vandalized out months ago. It's not remarkably well sourced, but I'm adding it back in, as the article really doesn't make much sense without this information. Interwebs (talk) 00:40, 13 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Personal life section

edit

The Personal Life section is NOT about his personal life. Its about his house, and the ways he gets to work. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.135.155.182 (talk) 01:12, 8 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Edit request from 70.88.140.29, 27 September 2010

edit

{{edit semi-protected}} Dean Kamen did not die on September 26th. While news reports stated the owner of Segway scooters died, Dean no longer owned the company. It was a British gentleman who owned the company and perished in a freak fall off of a cliff.

Not done: please be more specific about what needs to be changed. SpigotMap 20:54, 27 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

segway

edit

according to the patent [4], he did not invent the segway, two other guys did —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.38.145.254 (talk) 21:45, 5 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi. The patent you link to was filed in 2006, and issued in 2007. See Patent 5701965 (filed in 1994 and issued in 1997) for Kamen et al's patent. At least one of Kamen's earlier patents is referenced in the one that you link to. ;) -- Quiddity (talk) 23:19, 5 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

World Economic Forum

edit

Kamen was elected a Technology Pioneer of the World Economic Forum in 2001. I'm not sure where that should go in the article. X10 (talk) 18:28, 8 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Documentary

edit

There is no mention in here about the 2014 independent documentary film, "Slingshot," which is a biography of Kamen and his inventions, mainly Slingshot, of course. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.29.51.147 (talk) 02:33, 17 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
