About the death of Reginald Dean

edit

Why does this list have the death of Reginald Dean as January 5? I heard on television tonight (January 7 2013) some one say that Reginald Dean had died today, which implies that he must have died on January 7 2013. ACEOREVIVED (talk) 19:41, 7 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

This is me, asking a stupid question: Is the BeeBeeCee ever wrong? They first reported it, this morning, saying Saturday, the 5th. I know here in the States, our talking heads say "So n so has died." But they never say when, sometime we (our page) are ahead of them. — Wyliepedia 19:54, 7 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Selkirk

edit

http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/sport/a/-/racing/15767821/balding-salutes-outstanding-miler-selkirk/

An English racehorse that probably needs an article written about him so he can join the section. 1991 and 1992 European Champion miler. I dont know that much about this type of racing, so I will defer to someone who does.Sunnydoo (talk) 05:55, 5 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Started article today. In progress. — Wyliepedia 08:43, 5 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. I can talk about Stakes racing and Harness racing in the US, but I know nothing about the grass European racing like Steeplechase, etc.Sunnydoo (talk) 12:11, 5 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
Actually, my extent of Euro-racing is "furlongs" and how much he got paid in pounds to sire. I just listed his history and how many races he won by a nose (exaggeration). Haha. — Wyliepedia 12:16, 5 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
And I guess it doesn't matter that Selky was born in America but raced mostly in Europe? Nationalities don't matter for animals? I'm leaving it in his article, though! — Wyliepedia 14:39, 5 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Angelina Varganova

edit

If someone that speaks Russian could check the source of the article that is attached to Varganova. I dont know if that is a reputable site or not and if there are articles in the Russian newspaper about her death. Thanks.

I had to reinstate the link as we have someone patrolling the page determined to cut out Red links again. If it needs to go, that is fine, but simply cutting it because it is Red doesnt cut it. Don't know why this fight keeps coming up time and time again. Its like a never ending cycle.Sunnydoo (talk) 12:01, 5 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

"Joselo"

José Díaz Márquez
Here's his Spanish Wiki if anyone wishes to make an article. Personally, he doesn't appear notable outside of Venezuela.

Tom Ebbert (January 7)

edit

Has Dukes of Dixieland listed but is not anywhere in their article. He's mentioned in the source so should we keep it here and just wildly add him to the DoD article? I ask this because I was feeling froggy and was going to article him, like I did Ralph the Doorman (bajillion points if you know who that is.) — Wyliepedia 22:21, 9 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

What's funny is: the Germans have an article on him. — Wyliepedia 22:29, 9 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
The Dukes of Dixieland article seems, to me, to be a scantily sourced/referenced piece of fancruft. I am not knowledgeable in this area, but were they more noteworthy by association, rather than anything they have 'achieved' ? Either way, neither them nor Ebert seems notable at first glance. Although I do understand his entry here will disappear, if he has not got an article of his own, within a month or so.
Derek R Bullamore (talk) 00:09, 10 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, after looking at the German one and Googling him, I agree. — Wyliepedia 00:13, 10 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
Also, apologies from me, as I altered the spelling of the surname at one point, due to his professional references tending to spell it with one B. Self-reverted. Ref (chew)(do) 10:00, 10 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Looks like cancer wins again. Sad. — Wyliepedia 07:51, 18 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

[1] came out several Sundays ago. Its a fascinating look at 1 year in the life of Australia (2010) and the number of deaths nationwide. Looks to be pretty similar for all Western Cultures. The 2nd image under the original is the better representation.Sunnydoo (talk) 12:39, 18 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

January 10: Miriam B. Ajluni

edit

Her source claims she was "prominent" and a "cable TV host". I do not see anything notable in the source that requires her listing here, other than her being a "host and producer of a community-access cable television program devoted to Arab-American issues and events." Cable-access shows here in the States are a dime a dozen. I suggest removal. — Wyliepedia 22:17, 22 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

January 22: Linda Riss Pugach

edit

Leave as is, a redlink or change to Linda Pugach, which redirects to her husband who made her famous by hiring men to attack her years ago? Yes I know, either will be removed in February. — Wyliepedia 09:26, 24 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

I think she warrants an article. Or, perhaps, an article entitled "Attack of Linda Riss" (i.e., the event). The attack was highly notable; a documentary film (or two) was made about it; and it sparked a noted lawsuit. Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 01:18, 25 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

I have nominated two of our January entries as DYK's after creating their articles, Jean Giambrone & Inez McCormack. Both are notable for being the first females to become exemplars in their mostly-male-dominated fields of their respective times. Just goes to show that you never know what a redlink here will become. — Wyliepedia 10:44, 25 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Same for Anna Litvinova! — Wyliepedia 10:49, 25 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Watson Parker

edit

This person died on the 9th of this month, not the 8th. B-Machine (talk) 16:16, 26 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

The reference states "died Tuesday night" which could mean late on the evening of Tuesday 8 or the early hours of Wednesday 9. In the absence of better information, I think Tuesday (8) is the better representation of the source. WWGB (talk) 00:40, 27 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Gour Khyapa ref

1 ref tells the age and another ref tells he died at Saturday night! --Tito Dutta (talk) 07:01, 28 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

And is changing ref to plain style working? It took me 3 times to add Gour Khyapa there! --Tito Dutta (talk) 07:03, 28 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Sophiya Haque

edit

The Guardian obit cited at Sophiya Haque gives 1/16 as the date of her death whereas the BBC article cited here doesn't give any date. Any objection to moving her to the 1/16 section?--ukexpat (talk) 17:26, 28 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thursday morning, which is the 17th, as cited in her article. — Wyliepedia 17:41, 28 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
So we have two more or less reliable sources that disagree. Note also that the date of death in the article was only changed to the 17th on 1/26 based on where she is listed here. We appear to be at an impasse, unless more sources can be found to support one or other of the dates.--ukexpat (talk) 17:51, 28 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
Actually, in the cited article here, the BBC one, it has a quote which says "I actually didn't know anything about her illness until her death yesterday," he added. The date of the article is the 18th, making the "yesterday" and our page correct. — Wyliepedia 17:56, 28 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
The Independant [2] also gives 17 January. Arjayay (talk) 18:01, 28 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
OK folks I am convinced, 17th it is. -1 for the Grauniad.--ukexpat (talk) 18:10, 28 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
It's all good. It will happen again, trust me, and not just with the Dangiaur. — Wyliepedia 18:12, 28 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Jan 28 — Mary O'Connor

edit

Not notable. While I've seen her on The Girls Next Door and know that she's been Hef's secretary for a very long time. I just don't think she deserves mention here. She's not even mentioned at either article. — Wyliepedia 06:10, 29 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Oh, looky, someone created her article, and I still fail to see notability. — Wyliepedia 03:55, 31 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
Should anyone care to weigh in on this... — Wyliepedia 04:38, 1 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Bernard Horsfall

edit

Why does he have three movies in his description? I think the criteria we used was that we only added movies where the actor was a protagonist.--Andres arg (talk) 12:48, 30 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

I always thought the "criteria" was to only list notable works that actors have been in and have Wiki articles. Those three movies do have articles (even though Doctor Who listing is the global one), and Horsfall was cast in them, but he was not listed in any of the Wiki-articles, no matter what the source says. — Wyliepedia 03:54, 31 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
