Why this article?

edit

This article was created as I was trying to find out this info, but could only find a list for the USA! Murkee (talk) 11:44, 15 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Britain's Enemies

edit

During the 20 century there were rebellions throughout the British Empire, these may count as undeclared wars. Discuss.

The simplest list of countries Britain has fought is the List of United Nations member states, just add dates. For instance in 1812 the USA went to war with Great Britain.

Since the Second World War declarations of war have been replaced by UN Security Council resolutions. This happened for the Falklands War. Andrew Swallow (talk) 00:58, 7 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Why American war of Independence?

edit

Why is the American War of Independence included in list of declarations of war by the UK? It was a declaration against the UK. I f I don't get a satisfactory explanation I'll remove it.Channelwatcher (talk) 18:43, 5 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

(Forgot to sign the above so have done it now but the date is, of course, wrong.) Done. But what about WW1? Channelwatcher (talk) 18:43, 5 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Wars declared the other way?

edit

I feel like this list is kind of pointless if it's just wars declared by Britain on other countries. What about wars declared by other countries on Britain? Usually such wars would involve a reciprocal acknowledgement by Britain that may amount to a declaration of war anyway. So France in 1793 should be mentioned, for instance. john k (talk) 18:39, 15 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Third paragraph

edit

I think that the third paragraph of this article (at the time of writing beginning "There has been a long-running debate...") would be better suited to the article UK parliamentary approval for military action. I wasn't sure whether it was acceptable to move another person's writing to another article so I have left it where it is for now. Can somebody advise?

WWIII

edit

Hate to say it but this could actually happen. Russia is doing their usual thing (ie sabre rattling) and in theory the UK could declare war and assume that the US and other allies would back them up through NATO. I am not entirely sure under what circumstances this could occur but if a red line (ie invading the Ukraine) were crossed then war may be inevitable. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.111.199.23 (talk) 13:49, 27 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
