edit

Please accept this invitation to discuss any of the relevant issues concerning "Money Demand". I would like as much input as possible in developing this section further.

Though I believe the present discussions are very good and discuss many of the basic issues involved in "Money Demand", I believe some changes in this set of discussions could enhance its ability to create a greater understanding for the "Common Person" who may request information about this issue; allowing him/her to better relate to the various aspects of "Money Demand". It is important to develop an explanation that can be understood by a person with a rudimentary knowledge, or no knowledge of economics.

I believe that part of the change can be in the presentation of the information given. The first part of the explanation should cover the subject in a very General and "simple" fashion that presents a broad overview of the issue being discussed. Some reference can be made to other sections or other pages (that contain any relevant information). If some of these other sections/pages do not exist, we can work on developing them also, treating each one of them as a separate entity/explanation. After this, there needs to be a better use of the segmentation of the issues presented, which partially allows for flow from one section/issue/topic to another. I also think that some of the explanations may actually need further elaboration in order to allow the "common reader" to fully understand the "Money Demand" issues brought up here.

There should be a whole section on the "Liquidity Demand" for money, and another whole section on the "Transactions Demand" for money. These issues can be covered in more depth by elaborating on them in completely separate pages, each of which is solely devoted to a single topic mentioned within one of these sections. Links to these other pages can then be used to allow the reader access to a greater amount of detail. Of course, part of the relevant discussion in the "Liquidity Demand" for money is its ability to "Store Value". A dominant issue in the "Transactions Demand" for money is its ability to be used as a "Medium of Exchange" (Facilitating transactions while reducing transactions costs).

The above stated issues may be some of the first we cover since they might be relatively simple.

I would encourage you to develop only sections within this article for "Liquidity Demand" and "Transactions Demand". Wait until those sections are too large for this article to break them off into their own articles. CRETOG8(t/c) 20:37, 4 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Proposal to change article title to "Demand for money"

edit

I'd like to propose changing the article title from "Money demand" to "Demand for money." Reasons include the following:

1. There is sbout 50 precent nearly 40 percent more scholarly usage of "demand for money" (from Google scholar):

"Money demand": 28,000 hits
"Demand for money": 39,000 hits

2. Moreover, that understates the relevant title-usage difference. Both are used as a noun phrase in the present article title (rather than as an adjective phrase). Used as a noun phrase in article titles (rather than as an adjective) in titles of the sbove, "demand for money" is even more common, as a check for of the first 20 hits in each of the above confirms (5-12 and 16-0 of the above respectively, that is relatively more DM use as a noun phrase).

3. "Money demand" may legitimately be used in the sense of "nominal [money-value] demand," a different sense from the use in this article. "Demand for money" is the less ambiguous term. Unless there is a consensus against it, I'd like to make the change in a few days. The histories of the article and Talk page would carry to the new title of course. --Thomasmeeks (talk) 18:54, 19 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Move (title change) completed per above. --Thomasmeeks (talk) 12:17, 3 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
