Ereshkigal

A note was added about Erishkigal's appearance in the second edition module "Return to the Keep On the Borderlands". In the mod, Erishkigal is an evil goddess (not a demon lord) belonging to the Sumerian / Akkadian pantheon (there's an artifact in her lair with info on her pantheon). Monster Manual II is the only reference that calls Ereshkigal a (male) demon lord, so I'm reverting to that version for now. Asima is also listed as male in MMII. --Muchness 03:27, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

The fact that Ereshikigal was listed as male in MMII, I think, was an unintentional mistake. Ereshkigal is mythic-logically female. Mistake or not, we have to report source material rather than interpret it. If Hades was listed as a goddess in D&D supplements, we'd have to list her as a goddess in D&D related articles. I've removed the wikilink to Ereshkigal because at the moment there's only a 1 line ref in MMII – not enough info for even a stub. --Muchness 08:35, 20 February 2006 (UTC)

That's a good catch. The only refs I can find are here (no source cited) and here (same author, Greytalk list cited as source). Unfortunately the Greytalk list archives are no longer online so the source is unverifible. There's a WOTC supplement called Fiendish Codex I : Hordes of the Abyss due for release in June 2006; hopefully that'll settle some of these issues. --Muchness 08:35, 20 February 2006 (UTC)
