St lawrences Church.

edit

If you Google Denton Tameside, the first link you get is to information about St Lawrences and every other link that you come to mentions it. I feel there should be more information regarding this historic landmark.

I would also like to add information on The Festival Hall donated by the Scott family. Also information on The Hyde family of Denton who were responsible for much of the creation of the 2 local towns Ashton and Hyde.

Also I have a picture of Denton's Coat of Arms but don't know how to add it. Can anyone help? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Schnizzle (talkcontribs)

Any thoughts on this anyone?Schnizzle 08:11, 13 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

School

edit

this page used to say in the schools section: Denton Central (Duke Street) Primary School (closed in 2004 due to falling pupil rolls). I dont think it neccessary to state why the school closed, it is not important, and we dont want to 'get peoples backs up'

PUbs in Denton

edit

Why was the pubs in Denton removed? The vast majority of them have been there for many many years and are local land marks. Much longer than the schools which are listed. I have reinstated it.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Schnizzle (talkcontribs)

It's a pretty shoddy state when mere ale houses become notable within a town, so I can appreciate why the pubs were removed earlier. What next - list of post boxes in Denton, or perhaps a list of all shops in Denton? --Oscarthecat  18:35, 12 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Fair enough. I disagree but if there is a general consensus it isn't of interest then remove it. What if they had brief discriptions that would be of use to visitors to the town? Sorry for not signing the comments I didn't know how at the time.Schnizzle 08:10, 13 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi, thanks for the feedback. I do appreciate your other improvements to the article, I'm just not sure about the pubs list. I wonder if we can confine the list to particularly notable pubs in Denton, such as ones with a long and distinguished history like the Crown Point ? --Oscarthecat  20:24, 13 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

I agree but The Crown Point has gone now and is the Last Orders (which is probably the least notable pub in manchester :)) Which is a shame considering its history. I think maybe the Red Lion, the 2 jolly hatters (named from the hatting industry of course) Silver springs and Angel maybe? I take it you are a Dentonian? Schnizzle

I removed them. Schnizzle 09:08, 22 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Brian Day

edit

I removed him as a notable character from Denton, edit here, as he's already listed as a notable character from Hyde. Suren't he doesn't belong on both articles? Furthermore, the Brian Day article itself makes no mention of Denton or Hyde, so this is an unsourced piece of information from this anonymous editor. --Oscarthecat (talk) 11:26, 25 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

In fact, the Brian Day article itself is about a physician, and not some old rocker :-) --Oscarthecat (talk) 11:27, 25 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Basic Standards

This article contains the sentence, "During the nights of bombing we were never sure which bang and reverberation was due to a shell or a bomb." This sort of first-person reporting, without attribution or corroboration, does not meet basic Wikipedia standards. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.118.229.114 (talk) 22:05, 5 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

I agree with you, and in fact I'd go further and say that the entire section ought to be deleted, which I've just done. Malleus Fatuorum 21:23, 8 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Prehistory?

edit

the 6th-9th centuries aren't generally classified as prehistory, as there are written things from that era in england and it's therefore part of the historical era - early medieval or anglo-saxon period would be more accurate, the middle ages heading could then perhaps be altered too Dharkus (talk) 03:13, 14 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Short section on media appearance

edit

Denton is the location featured extensively in A Touch of Frost as the main setting, and it ran for almost 20 years - seems a mention near the bottom would be a good idea? Dharkus (talk) 03:17, 14 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
