Glad to pick this one up.

Assessment

edit

Lead section

edit
  • There needs to be a small c in classics.
  • Who is Edgar Lobel?
  • P. E. Easterling is the only academic not given her full name, for consistency this should be amended.

Early life and education

edit
  • Link classics (small c); archaeologist; Hellenist; philologist.
  • Page's full name is needed at the start of the main article.
  • ... Page's future work. - ‘... his future work.’.

Career

edit
  • Unlink Student, as the link doesn’t provide further information about this term.
  • Unlink Singapore and Sri Lanka (MOS:OL).
  • Unlink at in ...Regius Chair of Greek at'....
  • Amend Trinity College, Cambridge to ‘Trinity College’.
  • Ditto Jesus College, Cambridge.
  • Link Lesbians.
  • Like he had done at Oxford,… - needs copy editing.
  • ...the students involved in the Garden House riot. - I would provide a brief explanation here of what happened during the riot.
  • He also served as the president of Cambridge University Cricket Club from 1971 to 1973. - is this noteworthy? Personally, I wouldn’t include it, unless he was a keen cricketer himself—in which case it needs to be mentioned.
  • In 1955, together with Edgar Lobel, Page published… - could be reduced to ‘ In 1955, Lobel and Page published…’.

Retirement and death

edit
  • ... the customary age limit… - I would state the age here.
  • ...after a deterioration in his wife's health. - imo it sounds better to say ‘...after his wife’s health deteriorated.’, or something similar.
  • ... from the library… - ‘for the library’? Do we know if his wife survived him? I would add the year she died if this is known.

Legacy

edit
  • .. is still consulted… - I would omit still, a word that can become out of date. (MOS:RELTIME)
  • ...and was praised for its "philological and critical judgement… - who praised, and when?
  • An accomplished editor and textual critic,… - It’s not clear why the two halves are connected in a single sentence.
  • His focus lay narrowly… - needs a citation at this point, to avoid it sounding editorial.
  • ...and he sometimes exhibited a tendency towards dogmatism… - imo this is too vague – I wouldn't include it without a citation.
  • His 1955 book The Homeric Odyssey suffers from these weaknesses… - I think you need to say who believed this to be true.

On hold

edit

Not a lot of work to do here, Modussiccandi. I've put the article on hold until 6 October. Regards, Amitchell125 (talk) 18:32, 28 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Thank you, Amitchell125. I have taken care of all the above comments. Should you feel that some of my corrections didn't go far enough, feel free to tweak them yourself. Let me know if anything else is needed for the review. Best, Modussiccandi (talk) 14:52, 29 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Passing

edit

Well, that was easy. Congratulations on getting the article through so painlessly. Amitchell125 (talk) 16:04, 29 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
