The following sentences in combination imply that slippery rock is only caused by precipitation. It also implies that the only source of water is rain. While it may be worth noting that it didn't rain that day, it should also be mentioned that water can seep out of cracks in rocks*, and rock can become slippery with wear.

"Craig Luebben, a friend of Hersey, speculated that he encountered slippery rock. A spokesman for the National Park Service notes there was no rainfall in the area that day."
