editThe names of Gonzalez-RIvas and Larsson, and the book title should appear in the references only, therefore they were removed from the text.
There are many additional related algorithm publications in the 60s and 70s that were not mentioned including Stewart himself (Sargent and Westerberg, 1964; Steward, 1965; Norman, 1965; Ledet and Himmelblau, 1970; Warfield, 1973). No special reason to mention only Christopher Alexander. Here is a (partial) list
