Gerald Ford Terminal?

I cannot find any reference to such a name change on metroairport.com or the websites of the Detroit Free Press or Detroit News. A Google search for "Gerald Ford Terminal" gets no hits. - I emailed Detroit Metropolitan Airport. According to the person who emailed me back, the terminal has not been named yet, and their were no considerations of any names at the time. - More so, Metro Airport recently stated in the Detroit Free Press that they will be possibly putting the name up for sale. They stated that a company name would be out of the question, but possibly a notable executive of a company might buy the naming rights to North Terminal. Secondly, clocks in the McNamara Terminal and the new North Terminal will also be sold out to companies desiring to place their logo on the clock I would assume. Lastly, Metro announced that they will also be putting the 8 play areas located in the McNamara Terminal naming rights for sale also possibly by a company. 1>2>3 PARK
editMetro Airport recently had the new 1>2>3 PARK concept posted on their website. It will soon show up at the "Big Blue Deck" and parking lots. The McNamara Terminal parking garage will have it in the summer. It's not a matter of it being an instructional manual, it's a fact.--Golich17 02:49, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
- The way it was written, it looked like an instruction manual (actually it looked like it was copied directly from the airport website). If it's re-added, it should be factual, stating that it will enable travelers to pay by swiping a credit card. DB (talk) 04:25, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
Beijing Service
editAs direct flights are only supposed to be shown as international ones with no plane change, shouldn't Beijing be removed? Leg one is from DTW-PEK on a 747-400 and the second leg onwards to PEK is on an Airbus A330-200. Clearly its not a true direct flight if it involves such an aircraft change. Brussels and Düsseldorf date change
editAccording to the link from Northwest Airlines [1] the Brussels and Düsseldorf routes have been changed to June 5 for Düsseldorf and June 15 for Brussels. Anyone what to put any input in this? Spongefan 22:57, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
Seperation of domestic/international flights
editI've noticed that at a few US airports, some airlines domestic and international destinations are seperated. This is not set up in the standard form as set forth in the ProjectWiki Airport guide. Plus, when it's being done, it's inconsistent even within the airport page - i.e. DL and UA destinations being seperated at LAX, but AA and NW remaining intact. So, stop doing it. Thanks. Misc. Musings
editShould Bishop be linked here? Flint is 50 miles north of DTW and has regularly scheduled service (including to DTW). It would almost make sense to either drop it or add Toledo as it is in the same radius/sphere of influence. Also, the logo linked does not appear to have any fair use rationale to it. Future Service
editDTW is looking great, with the new North Terminal set to open in 2008. Are there any new airlines besides China Southern that plan to or will serve Metro Airport in the near future?
- As of now there has been no announcements as to any new airlines serving Detroit. However, Virgin America has stated that they will serve Detroit and a handful of other destinations within 5 years of initial service, which was a couple months ago.--Golich17 (talk) 00:38, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
- One bad thing though is that it seems Spirit Airlines has been slowly but surely removing routes from Detroit. Service to Boston and San Francisco both have been cut. KLM DTW-AMS service

Northwest, Delta, and the merger
editI reverted edits to the page that basically said everything that is Northwest all of a sudden became Delta...such as the flight schedule. While Northwest will sadly disappear, they still are operating with a valid FAA certificate and are the largest airline at Detroit. Airlines, Destinations in Table

- Unless its vandalism, you don't revert changes to a Wikipedia page, just because you didn't feel it was necessary, you need to discuss it first. Furthermore, a quick check shows the Destinations section for other large airport is in a table, so DTW should be also. - What you don't understand is that frequent editors of Airport pages have come up with a reasonable solution to common layout questions, WikiProject. The WikiProject Airport page allows editors the chance to put their two cents in while not making changes just yet. It's always good to get consensus from editors who frequently edit such pages BEFORE making edits. You stating as well that other pages have the same layout was simply that editor making changes to major airport pages. GA Sweeps: Delisted
editAs part of the WikiProject Good Articles, we're doing sweeps to go over all of the current GAs and see if they still meet the GA criteria. I believe the article currently has multiple issues that need to be addressed, and as a result, I have delisted the article. The article has been tagged with needing additional references two months ago and there are other areas within the article that require citations. Add additional citations from a variety of sources to provide a balanced representation of the information present. Perhaps sources can be pulled from the main articles linked to within the article. Look to books, magazines, newspaper articles, other websites, etc. In addition, the footnotes need additional parameters including title, author, publisher, date, access date, etc. Although the article has been delisted, the article can be return to GA status by addressing the above points. Once sources are added and cleanup is done, I recommend renominating the article at WP:GAN. If you disagree with this assessment, a community consensus can be reached at WP:GAR. - No. They can be rearranged out of alphabetical order to be listed together, but NW services cannot yet be "DL operated by NW" since they remain two airlines and they are still selling each other's services. Northwest Airlink no longer exists. That's just fact. You will find it painted on the side of aircraft, but that is it. All former Airlink-operating carriers now operate as Delta Connection carriers. The formerly Northwest wholly-owned subsidiary airlines (Mesaba and Compass) are now subsidiaries of Delta Air Lines, Inc.

Will CO change terminals?

- Don't know. Simple...just check the flight status of flights out of DTW on CO's website on or after the date they join Star Alliance and it will state which terminal it will arrive/depart. I know that CO moved from Terminal 2 to Terminal 1 at ORD; they also moved from Terminal 2 to Terminal 3 at PEK. Their main priority is smooth passenger connection between Star Alliance carriers. Kalitta Cargo
editKalitta does not operate scheduled service to Willow Run. The only reason Kalitta shows up is to clear customs. Recommend to remove it.
Also, I added the (re-started) USA-3000 service.

- I removed it. K4 doesn't operate out of DTW, so it shouldn't be there. They operate out of YIP and there is no way that they fly between YIP and DTW. They are a few miles apart.

ExpressTram at McNamara Terminal

- Good question. I don't know, but McNamara was built heavily with red as a general theme. For instance, McNamara largely uses silver with red, and North uses white with blue. It would be hard to change it to blue with everything else, given it is so widespread.

Assessment
editI rated this article as B-class on the Michigan WikiProject, because there are several minor issues with the article before it can be a good article candidate — since "A class" apparently is not used by the Michigan WikiProject. In any event, I believe the article has some reference issues. There are several sections in the article that are lacking citation (even though the article has quite a few references). The bare-linked references are poorly formatted and need to be converted using {{cite web}} or whatever other format from which the reference came. Also, the article is structured rather shabbily. editI've noticed we're now attributing "DTW" to standing for "Detroit-Toledo-Windsor"? This claim is unsourced, and, in my view, highly questionably, since the name of the airport is DeTroit Metro. - Yeah, that's most definitely misleading. It actually stands for Detroit-Wayne, as Detroit is located in Wayne County and this is the primary airport in the county of a large city like Detroit. If I find a reference, I'll be sure to include it.--Golich17 (talk) 05:58, 13 June 2010 (UTC)
- A Google search for "airport code origin" (but without quotes) turned up two sources saying the "W" is for Wayne. I would cite them here, but at least one of them is on Wikipedia's blacklist, so I'm not sure what to do. I also think the T is for "Detroit", not "Toledo". Pan Am 103 reference
editTowards the bottom of the article in the accidents and incidents section, the article says this: "On December 21, 1988, Pan Am Flight 103, which was on a Frankfurt-London-New York-Detroit route, exploded due to a bomb and killed all on board and several on the ground in Lockerbie, Scotland." This statement is misleading. If you look on the discussion page for Pan Am 103, you'll see that the aircraft for the FRA-LHR route was a Boeing 727, LHR-JFK was a Boeing 747, and JFK-DTW was another Boeing 727. Delta seasonal service
editMy edit on when DL's service from DTW-FCO ends on 8/30 and service from DTW-YVR ends on 8/2 was reverted. However, according to Delta's flight schedules, DTW-FCO ends on 8/30, and DTW-YVR ends on 8/2. I'm guessing that the person who undid my edit probably thought that I meant that the service will end completely. This is not the case. Delta's nonstop service from DTW-FCO will resume on 5/1/11. However, their schedules do not go out far enough to tell when DTW-YVR will resume. Here is a link to their flight schedules where you can enter dates in for schedules to those destinations. - Yes, I thought you meant that the service was ending completely. Since the service is seasonal, you leave them in the box as seasonal flights without their starting and ending days. Okay, I see what you're saying. I just thought it would be appropriate to add start or end dates to seasonal service. I had seen that with other airports where some of their airlines' destinations had seasonal service. For example, on the page for Boston Logan Airport, in the JetBlue Airways row, it says for one of its destinations: "Sarasota [seasonal; begins November 18]. - It means that it will be a new seasonal route which had not been previously operated by the airline. Just plain seasonal means that the route does not operate during the winter season or the summer season and will return the next season. DL Service to BOM
editLooking at the DL schedules, the DTW-BOM flight has a stop in AMS. If a passengers traveling from DTW to BOM have to either have a stopover or connect to another flight in AMS, that route cannot be considered a nonstop route, so therefore, should not be listed as a DL destination from DTW. --98.250.92.159 (talk) 17:36, 27 January 2011 (UTC)
- It has never been a practice of WP:AIRPORT to list nonstop only. Anything genuinely direct is listed. However, it seems that DL has been switching flight numbers and equipment as often as the whole mess that is NRT even since before the NW merger. The flight DTW-BOM via AMS flight will only last from March to May then it will operate from Newark instead. On the BOM page, only Amsterdam should've been listed as a destination. JFK=BOM is also via AMS but that flight will no longer exist as it will originate from DTW (from March 27 thru mid-May) then it will operate from Newark via AMS instead. Seasonal service to Anchorage in 2012
editI have been attempting to book a nonstop flight between Detroit and Anchorage this summer, but it seems that seasonal service between these two cities does not exist during 2012. Delta's "new routes" webpage still shows the route (and several others) from 2011, but it makes no commitment to fly these routes in 2012. The route cannot be booked on travel websites either. If there's no indication that the route exists anymore, it should be removed from the main article page.
Delta Hong Kong service

- Airlines don't actively announce terminations of routes. Schedules will be your primary verifiable evidence. Discussion forums like Flyer Talk [4] have threads discussing it. HkCaGu (talk) 04:05, 25 June 2012 (UTC)

- Correction: The route has now ceased! Although source says that DTW-HKG will end August 30, 2012 but the last flight from DTW to HKG was actually August 29, 2012 (DL DTW-HKG route does not operate Aug. 30). Detroit Wayne?
editIs there a reason this article refers to Metro Airport in a manner I've never heard? If you go to the airport's website (which happens to be metroairport.com), it says "Welcome to Detroit Metro Airport". - @Mp2dtw: They decided to rename to to the present name. Not exactly sure why, but I think it is because it is within the metropolitan area of Wayne County (hence the name). Hope this answers your question. Sam.gov (talk) 20:29, 9 September 2015 (UTC)

Delta service to MNL and SJO
editPlease do not add Manila or San Jose (CR) as these flights are operated thru Delta hubs at NRT and ATL, respectively. Delta DTW-NRT-MNL (DL275) has been deemed timetable direct per past discussions at WT:AIRPORTS (it use to operate directly via NGO with no plane change but DL cancelled its NGO-MNL segment in March). editPlease stop saying that KLM occupies the McNamara Terminal because KLM is a codeshare service and they cannot occupy any gates since KLM do not actually operate its own services into the airport. "Second longest terminal in the world"
editThe claim made by this article (and the yahoo blog cited) appears to be outdated. There are several other airports with longer terminals in the US alone (such as Denver), but it's difficult finding sources that discuss only single terminals and not concourse walks. If anyone can find a more reputable or recent source, that would be quite beneficial. Superlucer (talk) 16:58, 10 January 2024 (UTC)
