Peak Enrollment
editWhat was DPS's peak enrollment? I've been looking for a history of enrollment for DPS, but can't find a list, anywhere. I think this would be an important and interesting chart to have on this page. --Criticalthinker (talk) 07:54, 14 April 2011 (UTC)

School closing list in 2005
editFleming Elementary, Hmong, and its fate
editI found these sources:
- "Fleming Academy Principal Goes The Distance For Culture." (Archive) Detroit Public Schools. April 15, 2008. http://www.webcitation.org/6C16yLdEb
- In "News Briefs." (Archive) Detroit Public Schools. p.4.
- "Michigan Hmong." (Archive of p1, Archive of p2) Michigan Daily. January 10, 2007
So Fleming Academy/Elementary and Osborne High School had a large Hmong population
Fleming's boundaries were:
- 2003: http://web.archive.org/web/20060214010500/http://schools.detroitk12.org/boundaries/ESAA_With_Streets_6_20_03.pdf
- 2009: http://web.archive.org/web/20110725234404/http://detroitk12.org/schools/docs/school_boundaries_elementary.pdf - Fleming took over Von Steuben Elementary and part of Richard Elementary
Now Fleming's former area is served by Scott Elementary - The parkland is not in the Scott zone but everything else that was the Fleming zone is now the Scott K-8 elementary zone
Middle boundaries:
- 2003: Brenda Scott: http://web.archive.org/web/20060214010407/http://schools.detroitk12.org/boundaries/MSAA_With_Streets_6_20_03.pdf
- 2009: Brenda Scott: http://web.archive.org/web/20110725234517/http://detroitk12.org/schools/docs/school_boundaries_middle.pdf
- 2012: Scott K-8: http://detroitk12.org/schools/docs/school_boundaries_middle.pdf
Osborne still exists.

Snippet on charter schools
editThis page is on semi-protected so I'm hoping someone can cut the POV out of section on charter schools, which reads as an ad for University Prep High School. The part that needs to be removed for sure is the part making the claim that they pay for a student's ACT. All public schools in Michigan require that juniors take the ACT, this is not unique to this school. --35.16.35.141 (talk) 17:47, 25 January 2013 (UTC)

School brochures and documents in other languages
editThe presence of brochures and documents in other languages specific to particular may indicate which non-English speaking groups are most prevalent at particular schools:
Spanish (these schools are in Southwest Detroit unless when otherwise stated):
- Western International High School - Spanish brochure (Archive)
- Academy of the Americas (Academia de las Américas) - Bilingual English-Spanish brochure (Archive)-- Also its school webpage has Spanish in it (Archive)
- English-Spanish enrollment forms: http://detroitk12.org/content/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/Academy-of-the-Americas-Application-English.pdf - http://www.webcitation.org/6ZqV3oDXf -- The second part is only in English: http://detroitk12.org/content/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/Academy-of-the-Americas-Application-English-Part-II.pdf - http://www.webcitation.org/6ZqV73dcr
- According to http://detroitk12.org/content/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/BLAC-Picking-the-Perfect-School-Guide-FINAL.pdf (Archive) p. 8 (PDF 5/17), most of the school's students are native Spanish speakers

- Harms Elementary School - Bilingual English-Spanish brochure (Archive)
- Maybury Elementary School - Bilingual English-Spanish brochure (Archive) - The school webpage also has Spanish (Archive)

Again, I'm making sure any Hmong documents are archived ASAP. Many Hmong have left Detroit and DPS may stop making Hmong documents (unless they somehow return to their former neighborhoods)
Renaissance 2012 documents
editIndex The reason I'm archiving these is to:
- Get records of old attendance zones
- Get documents in other languages so people who are not sure what words to use when translating things have references available. For example if people trying to translate this article ask "what is "charter school" in Bengali/Hmong/Romanian/etc" they will get an answer. - The Bengali school closing article also has names of some schools in Bengali

2015 brochures in languages other than English
editThe brochures of schools which have their own Wikipedia articles (Western International High School (Spanish), Detroit International Academy (Bengali), Academy of the Americas (Spanish)) are located in their respective talk pages
SPANISH: (DPS schools with Spanish speakers tend to be in Southwest Detroit)
- Bennett (Archive) (for some reason it has no English brochure!)
- Clemente (Archive) - English version (Archive)
- Earhart (Archive) - English version (Archive)
- Neinas Elementary (Archive) - English version (Archive)
These schools only have English brochures, but have websites in Spanish:
- Harms (Archive) - website with Spanish (Archive)
- Maybury Elementary (Archive) - Website with Spanish (Archive)
ARABIC and SPANISH: (these DPS schools are in southwestern and western Detroit, along the border of heavily Arab Dearborn)
- Gardner Elementary (Archive) - English version (Archive)
- This 2013 article (Archive) says that at Gardner, about 40% are African-American, 40% are Middle Eastern (Iraq, Lebanon, Palestine, Yemen), and 10% are Hispanic (Mexico, Venezuela, Dominican Republic), and a few are from Nigeria
- Munger (Archive) - English version (Archive)
- Priest (Archive) - English version (Archive)
BENGALI: (Davison is in the Banglatown shared with Hamtramck, and Burton is near the Bengali area)
- Burton (Archive) - English version (Archive)
- Burton has another English brochure (Archive)
- Davison (Archive) - English version (Archive)

Based on the 2012-2013 attendance maps (Elem, Mid, High) I will check the feeder patterns of these other-than-English student body schools.
- Southwestern HS gets students from all of: Bennett ES, Clemente ES, Earhart ES-MS, Harms ES, Maybury ES, Neinas ES; parts of: Burton ES-MS, Munger MS (Southwestern HS does have Spanish brochures)
- Northwestern HS gets students from all of: Priest MS; parts of: Burton ES-MS, Munger MS
- King HS gets students from parts of: Burton ES-MS
- Pershing HS gets students from all of: Davison ES-MS
- Cody HS gets students from all of: Gardner ES
I do not see other-than-English brochures from the other zoned high schools WhisperToMe (talk) 15:36, 22 November 2015 (UTC)

Removed Section
editI removed the "Teacher Relations" subsection. It was written as current information, but every item in it was more than 10 years old, and one reference to financial matters was 12 years old. Since then the district has gone through seven years of a State appointed financial manager, starting in 2009, who has changed everything mentioned in the removed subsection. Just last month there were law suits in court about teachers striking, which is against the law, by calling in sick in a coordinated fashion, and this removed subsection had no mention of that. In fact it was obvious that no one had updated it in eight years. Right now the District is under an Outside Financial Manager, who will leave ten days from this writing. External links modified
editHello fellow Wikipedians,
I have just added archive links to one external link on Detroit Public Schools. Please take a moment to review my edit. If necessary, add {{cbignore}}
after the link to keep me from modifying it. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}}
to keep me off the page altogether. I made the following changes:
- Added archive http://web.archive.org/web/20101215035710/http://detroitk12.org/DOC060810studrescode.pdf to http://www.detroitk12.org/DOC060810studrescode.pdf
