Origin of the band's name

"The name stands for Deutsch-Amerikanische Freundschaft or German-American friendship - which at the time the band formed was a shot at DSF, the East German German-Soviet friendship organization."

Are there any sources to back up this assertion? "Deutsch-amerikanische Freundschaft" is a phrase that has been in mainstream political discourse in Germany for a long time. I'm not sure exactly how long, but I would be extremely surprised if it did not become current fairly soon after World War II. In any event, it is still in use now (for instance see Mainz feiert die deutsch-amerikanische Freundschaft). Its choice for the band's name would certainly have been consistent with the practice of "creating lyrics to be taken as a parody of words and phrases floating around in the public media," as well as with the message of Auf Wiedersehen (from Die Kleinen und die Bösen), which suggests that the Nazi imperialist past cannot be casually shaken off merely by acting as if it never happened. Therefore, unless the reference to DSF can be corroborated, I think it should be treated as POV and removed. Ireneshusband 08:02, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

I'm starting to understand what you're getting at now. I can see how the acronym, DAF could be taken as a shot at the DSF, even if the full name, by itself, couldn't really. If this is so then it needs to be made explicit in the article. Could still do with a citation of some sort to clear this up. Without further evidence. there is no strong reason to think that the name of the band was abbreviated for any reason other than to be more memorable, similarly to how Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark was abbreviated to OMD. Targeting specific people

I think the band's claim not to target anybody specifically is self-evidently false. The video for Der Sherriff features a Texas Rangers badge, making it pretty clear that George W Bush is being attacked personally. Should this be regarded as "original research" and excluded from the article, or as something so obvious that no corroborating sources are needed, and therefore a fact worthy of inclusion? The DAF Style

I have created the section entitled "The DAF Style". This is my first attempt to write a substantial part of an article about popular music and I am aware that I may not have avoided POV entirely successfully (I hope that isn't an understatement!). The documentation I have to go on is the music itself (as I hear it) and odd things I have heard or read journalists say over the years, but never took the trouble to note down. I have done my best, but I would be grateful if other people could have a look at what I have written and either correct it themselves or let me know how I could have done it better. Move to DAF or Deutsch-Amerikanische Feundschaft (band)

This is not usually what people are looking for under "Deutsch-Amerikanische Freundschaft;" and thus should be moved to DAF. Deutsch-Amerikanische Freundschaft needs to direct to an article relating to German-American relations, quite obviously. If there was a band named USA, and I am sure there is, we would not dedicate the article for USA to that band but rather a redirect to the United States article. Besides most music groups feature "(band)" behind their name in the article's title just like movies feature "(movie)" in the article title. Signature^brendel 18:18, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

Hyphenation in name

I've removed the hyphen from between "Deutsch Amerikanische" in this article because on all album covers it is either written as "Deutsch Amerikanische Freundschaft" or just "DAF". Their official website and Facebook page also lacks a hyphen.

Purple prose and severe lack of references

The prose in the body text is distinctly purple. Rip It Up has been most productive for references, and I'll probably add a bit more purple in quotes. But basically, the whole section needs decent citation. I don't think any of it is wrong, but the opinions have to come from respectable critical mouths.

Main problem is I don't read German :-) I get by with Google Translate (quite usable when you know the subject matter), but I have, e.g. [1], which is images, so not c'n'pable into a translator, but looks to be a marvellous source for translated quotes from Delgado - David Gerard (talk) 17:32, 13 March 2014 (UTC)
