Images
editBecause Anonymous Dissident reverted my changes (which went back to the old layout before the gallery), I will explain a bit more as to the why I have removed the gallery again - first, it breaks the article flow, by concentrating too many images into one section, rather than having them run down the side, interspersing and enlivening the text. Second, by creating a gallery, you encourage people to add even more and more images to the article.
Further, images are also not Wikipedia's focus - this is an encyclopedia article. Before my last change, this article had 10 (!) images, including views of Auckland CBD (now reduced to six total, still a bit high). When an article has too little text to comfortably have the images sit along the side, the result should be a weeding out, not gathering them into a gallery.
As for what Anonymous Dissident's comment re the images being too large - he may have referred to fixing the image size at the infobox width, which admittedly may produce a changed outcome depending on how wide your screen is etc... Fine, so lets not size-force them. Cheers, Ingolfson (talk) 05:34, 31 January 2010 (UTC)
"Harbourside dining"?
editThe article currently claims that Devonport is popular for its "harbourside dining and drinking establishments", but as far as I know there are just two harbourside options in Devonport: Platter Cafe and the Navy Museum Cafe. Is this reputation just from these two premises or am I wrong? 27.252.89.251 (talk) 09:02, 19 August 2013 (UTC)
- There is, or was, the Masonic Tavern at 29 King Edward Parade. See article with good photo here. This tavern was certainly harbourside, with the seashore being just behind the camera. It may have been demolished and turned into an apartment block by now, so the claim you refer to may be outdated now, at least as far as the Masonic is concerned. Don't agree with the "low importance" assessment. Devonport is an important tourist attraction, it has an interesting history, and there are not many other quality sources available on the internet. Dick Bos (talk) 21:24, 22 December 2008 (UTC) |

Notability of ban on synthetic cannabis.
editDoes this meet notability to be included? I personally never heard of Devonport in relation to the synthetic cannabis issue before now. Traumnovelle (talk) 09:04, 21 January 2024 (UTC)
