Penafiel
editPenafiel was in the second tier of the Portuguese system in 2006-07 season, that's why I changed the linking for the 2006-07 from the primeira to the liga de honra. Seems to be more right. Why was it changed back (an example of the same layout http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joshua_King_(footballer) )?cKaL (talk) 11:34, 24 March 2012 (UTC)
He's not Brazilian anymore
editHe's been declared eligible for Spain. The introductory paragraph should reflect that. "Brazilian" is misleading. MAINEiac4434 (talk) 01:34, 24 October 2013 (UTC)
- But, until (not before) he makes his debut for Spain, the intro should read "Brazilian". But don't fret, we can do what we want, lay down every rule we want, people will continue to do as they please! --AL (talk) 02:23, 1 November 2013 (UTC)
He was born in Brazil and has lived there for a large majority of his life. What connections does he have to Spain except from living there a relatively short period of time? Of course he is a Brazilian. 85.229.205.224 (talk) 19:59, 27 November 2013 (UTC)
Brazilian-born, naturalized Spanish
editHi, I was updating the intro of this article by adding "Brazilian-born, naturalized Spanish" instead of "Brazilian" given the footballer's recent naturalization, per source 33. User:Gringoladomenega keeps deleting my update with no reasonable explanation, which is why I consult the talkpage. Does anyone else oppose this update? If so, why? Thanks and happy holidays. ComputerJA (☎ • ✎) 17:22, 27 December 2013 (UTC)
- Until not make his debut for Spain, he is Brazilian, with Spanish second nationality. Gringoladomenega User talk:Gringoladomenega 27 December 2013 (UTC).
- He's now a Spanish citizen nonetheless, whether he gets to play in the national team or not. At least legally speaking. I'll accept keeping it as it is now if there is consensus, but saying that he isn't Spanish because he hasn't played in the team yet is false. He is Spanish already. ComputerJA (☎ • ✎) 17:38, 27 December 2013 (UTC)
- On Wikipedia, we identify footballers by their FIFA nationality. While it's appropriate to describe him as a naturalized Spanish citizen, he's still a Brazilian footballer. As for categorization, I'm not sure of the usual practice. The current setup, including Category:Spanish footballers, Category:Brazilian footballers, and Category:Brazil international footballers, looks right. --BDD (talk) 19:45, 9 January 2014 (UTC)
- So what's his nationality now? https://twitter.com/SeFutbol/status/440454652580995072 He kinda looks like a Spaniard to me in that photo. I think it might be the fact that he's in a Spanish national team shirt and that it was posted by the official account of the Spanish national team. MAINEiac4434 (talk) 16:21, 3 March 2014 (UTC)
- Until he has actually played a match for spain his FIFA nationality (and wikipedia's) is Brazilian. Being in the spanish squad is not enough. We use the nation has last played a match for. QED237 (talk) 21:45, 3 March 2014 (UTC)

Chelsea-subline should be removed. His 'move' to Chelsea is as of now nothing but a rumour. 62.243.118.93 (talk) 10:54, 16 May 2014 (UTC)
Not done As stated it is a sourced fact, if there has been a later statement that the deal is now off, please provide a reliable source, however, the fact that a deal was agreed and then rescinded, and the reason for that, would be probably notable enough for it to remain in the article. - Arjayay (talk) 14:26, 16 May 2014 (UTC)
Chelsea section should be removed.
editTransfer rumours posted on Sky Sports are not officially released, and should not be treated as a source. World Cup over after headbutt?
editThis edit request has been answered. Set the |answered= or |ans= parameter to no to reactivate your request. |
Diego Costa, making his debut at the FIFA World Cup, headbutted Dutch opponent Bruno Martins Indi. Source Source
There should be mention of his serious headbutt in front of a live audience of 2.5 billion. There is mention of him winning a penalty with his dive but not the headbutt for which his manager hauled him off quickly afterwards. When Zinedine Zidane did something similar he was sentenced by FIFA to a ban so this is not likely to be forgotten very quickly. There is already mention of Costa being banned so that would be his World Cup over then.

- The Portuguese naming custom template?
- Costa was born in Brazil and thus his name follows Portuguese customs '''tAD''' (talk) 15:40, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
- Spanish professional footballer should be Brazil born Spanish professional footballer
- Can not agree here. There is consensus at Wikipedia:WikiProject Football only to list FIFA nationality and were he was born can be seen in infobox and personal section. You could for example read decision at Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons/Noticeboard/Archive202#John Anthony Brooks which is same situation and Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football/Archive 87#Hyphenated nationalities again. I know there has been discussions about Costa as well and he is Spanish now and has decided to represent Spain. QED237 (talk) 20:05, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
- What about Penafiel in the lead?
- Reference of his youth career starting in 2006
- He didnt make any appearance for reserve ie S.C. Braga B,and where is reference?
- Information about years in Penafiel, Celta and Albacete?
- For how much he joined Valladolid?
- It is sourced as part of a deal which saw Atletico buy Asenjo '''tAD''' (talk) 15:40, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
- Benefitting from injury - sounds naïve
- Where do you get about demoting Forlan?
- Reference of 4 goals in first 3 appearances?
- On field altercations in two separate matches - that para is not clear
- Domestic cup final - why not Copa del Rey final? And also the last part of the last sentence lacks citation
- First bit done. Second bit is stating the obvious as we have a source that Costa scored in the final but not Ronaldo '''tAD''' (talk) 15:44, 11 October 2014 (UTC)

- Most football rumours are not reliable enough for Wikipedia '''tAD''' (talk) 15:44, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
- Taking the 19 no jersey part also lacks citation
- It should be Spain manager Vicente del Bosque
- Why in the Playing style Atlético de Madrid part is later?
- In the statistics part there should be columnwise reference and the 1 other match for Chelsea must be specified like the previous ones
- All statistics are sourced from the same soccerway page. '''tAD''' (talk) 16:05, 11 October 2014 (UTC)

Diego Costa has been awarded the Capital One Cup Final goal by dubious goals panel. The goal has not yet been updated in his statistics. I am including a link to the match report for the capital one cup final from the official capital one cup page which clearly states that the goal was scored by Diego Costa: http://www.capitalonecup.co.uk/fixtures-results/match-report/index.aspx?MatchId=3804535&hometeamid=4&type=report . I am also including an article from the official Chelsea website where it has been mentioned at the end of the article that Diego Costa has officially been awarded the goal: http://www.chelseafc.com/news/latest-news/2015/03/ask-statman.html . I hope I have provided sufficient proof and the requested edits shall be made. Neeraj.818 (talk) 10:31, 27 April 2015 (UTC)
Fixed Thank you for noticing, all the sources do now say it's a Costa goal, as does 2015 Football League Cup Final. Joseph2302 (talk) 10:43, 27 April 2015 (UTC)
Thank you for making the changes. However Diego Costa's statistics still do not reflect the league cup final goal. He should have 20 goals in all competitions and 1 goal in the cup section. Could you edit his statistics as well? Neeraj.818 (talk) 14:41, 27 April 2015 (UTC)
- The infobox only counts the number of league games/goals he's scored- I've updated it so it's correct, but the League Cup (or FA Cup/Champions' League etc.) appearance/goals don't get added to it. Joseph2302 (talk) 14:52, 27 April 2015 (UTC)
- His premier league goals have been updated however his cup statistics still say 3 appearances and 0 goals. As he has been awarded the Capital One Cup final goal it should show 3 appearances and 1 goal for a total of 20 goals from 31 appearances in all competitions.Neeraj.818 (talk) 18:45, 27 April 2015 (UTC)

Costa is going to Atletico Madrid
editWhy hasn't it been updated? He doesn't play for Chelsea and not in our squad as he is going to Atletico Madrid in January of next year: [1]http://www.chelseafc.com/news/latest-news/2017/09/diego-costa-agrees-transfer-terms.html
He's in Atletico Madrid not Chelsea
editDiego Costa is an Atletico Madrid player and not Chelsea player anymore.
Please change this highly critical detail as soon as possible. Akahomeacc (talk) 08:22, 5 December 2017 (UTC)
- Because "Diego Costa has today agreed terms for his transfer to Atletico Madrid, which will take effect on 1 January 2018." Koncorde (talk) 11:26, 5 December 2017 (UTC)
He is a squadmember since 26th September 2017, [1]: Diego Costa is NOW an Atlético (...) The international forward SIGNED his new contract (...) Starting TOMORROW, he will join the team’s trainings, but he will not be registered until the next winter market opens on January 1st. See also Arda Turan and Aleix Vidal.--HSV1887 (talk) 13:29, 1 January 2018 (UTC)
- While this situation is now moot, the point remains that his registration was held by another team. He therefore remained the player of the other team. This is exactly the same as if a player signed a pre-contract in January to join a club in June when the window opens (i.e. the Bosman ruling). We do not change his details just because of the existence of a contract. At any point up to the 31st December, Chelsea were within their rights to play Diego Costa, or insist he train at their facility, fine him, refuse to pay him or anything else as he remained their player.
