History updates
editThis edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest was declined. The reviewer would like to request the editor with a COI attempt to discuss with editors engaged in the subject-area first. |
Hi, Wikipedia! I am Julia and I work at Diligent Corporation. I am hoping for assistance updating the History section of the article. Due to my COI, I'll propose the updates here on the talk page for editor assistance.
I noticed there is unsourced content and "additional citations needed" tags in the beginning of the History section's Early History subsection and other unsourced material in the New company subheading section. I propose deleting all of the unsourced content in the first two paragraphs, deleting the New company subheading and rewriting the New company
paragraph to remove the quote and unsourced material. In my opinion the beginning of the section was a bit wordy and wasn't meeting the verifiability standard, so I tried to rewrite it concisely per the rules and I posted my suggestions below.
The development of Boardbook and history of Manhattan Creative Partners were missing citations. I used the document Diligent Board Member Services, Inc, from United States Security and Exchange Commission to verify Manhattan Creative Partners history and the book Digital Boardroom Evolution: A History of Electronic Board Portals by Karenina Lyons to verify Boardbook's history.
History
Diligent was founded by Brian Henry and Kiri Borg in 1994 as Manhattan Creative Partners (MCP)[1]
which consulted and hosted secure websites for financial institutions, mutual funds and insurance companies.[2][3] Diligent began developing Boardbook in early 2001, when client AIG Sunamerica, requested a secure automation of board documents.[2][4]
Henry and Borg formed Diligent Partners, together with
Sharon Daniels, Dan Kiley, Kenneth Carroll, Alessandro Sodi, Marc Daniels and Robert Craig in 2003.[1]
Manhattan Creative Partners was renamed to Diligent Board Member Services, shifting the services to focus on corporate governance delivery software.[1][3]

- @JHDiligent, @Heartmusic678, @Quetstar
- Upon review, I would suggest the following to proceed:
- The edits appear okay to me, but they are quite unclear due to the unusual formatting and the time that has passed since writing of the original request.
- We want to avoid edit warring, and I am concerned about the clarity, so I would not add them back immediately. I saw that there were some concerns regarding Heartmusic678's behaviour related to COIREQs, so we should keep that in mind.
- I suggest that JHDiligent rewrite the proposed edits in a clearer format (either "delete 'X', replace with 'Y'", or providing the rewritten section as a whole), keeping in mind any changes (especially sourcing) that have been made to the article in the interim. This would allow both me and any additional reviewers to better understand the proposed changes. The COIREQ backlog is currently quite significant, so the easier a request is to understand, the better.
- I hope that this improves the request's clarity and keeps it up to date.
- I'm currently working through the COIREQ backlog, so please ping me when there is an update here. I will be declining this request pending a reply from JHDiligent or input from other reviewers, but the matter is not resolved. Actualcpscm (talk) 17:05, 12 November 2022 (UTC)
Acquisitions and expansion request
editThis edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest was declined. The reviewer would like to request the editor with a COI attempt to discuss with editors engaged in the subject-area first. |
Hi Wikipedia, I'm Julia from Diligent Corp. I am requesting assistance to update this article with Diligent's expansion and acquisitions. I noticed the article is missing background information on BoardLink, Brainloop, Diligent Institute, Modern Governance Summit, the 2021 acquisitions of Steele, Galvanize, and Accuvio, and the 2022 acquisition of Insightia.
- Can an editor please add a sentence in the Company growth and revenue restatement issues subsection about Diligent's 2015 purchase of BoardLink? For this addition, I found two articles to verify the information: NBR and Stuff NZ. I was thinking something similar to: Diligent purchased BoardLink, a SaaS board management application for $10 million in cash from Thomas Reuters in 2015.
- Since Diligent has been expanded a great deal since the article was created, would it be possible to create a new subsection of History titled Acquisitions and expansion to make the section more complete? I compiled an example section with content on Brainloop, Diligent Institute, Modern Governance Summit, the 2021 acquisitions of Steele, Galvanize, and Accuvio, and the 2022 acquisition of Insightia with sources for editor perusal. I think
that all of the sources meet Wikipedia's criteria, but please let me know if not, and I can search for additional sources.
Acquisitions and expansion
Since 2016, Diligent has restructured its leadership team and acquired new companies, including Brainloop, BoardPad, Boardroom Resources[1][2][3] and Manzama.[4] Diligent acquired European company Brainloop in 2018, to expand governance cloud offerings and security for data exchange between the board of directors and the supervisor board.[5]
Diligent Institute launched in December 2018, as a think tank aimed to provide customers with global research on governance practices.[6][7] Since 2019, Diligent has hosted the Modern Governance Summit, a professional learning conference and networking event for GRC leaders.[8]
Through the 2021 acquisitions of Galvanize and Steele Corporation, Diligent added to its modern GRC platform for the boardroom.[9][10] At the time of acquisition, 900 global government agencies used Galvanize.[10] Diligent acquired Accuvio in 2021, a software that collates information on organizations' impact on the environment, adding to Diligent's environmental, social and corporate governance offerings.[11][12]
Diligent acquired Insightia, an analytics data provider focused in proxy voting and corporate governance in January 2022.[13]

- Hi Heartmusic678, I posted an edit request above, would you be interested in reviewing? JHDiligent (talk) 20:03, 4 April 2022 (UTC)
- Hi JHDiligent. I updated the Company growth section and will take a closer look at the remainder of your request tomorrow. Thanks, Heartmusic678 (talk) 20:34, 4 April 2022 (UTC)
- @JHDiligent I'm sorry I will not be able to complete this edit request, so I will defer to other editors. Heartmusic678 (talk) 20:04, 5 April 2022 (UTC)
- Hi Quetstar, I noticed you reverted a few of the edits that I originally requested. I feel the proposed edits were an improvement to the article, seeking removal of unsourced content and a concise rewrite of the beginning of the History section. Also the article was outdated and did not have current information on Diligent's acquisitions that are a part of the company's overall operations. Would you mind explaining to me how the content could better meet Wikipedia's standards? And specifically, which standards were problematic resulting in the revert. I am interested in learning what content I proposed in the edit requests did not follow Wikipedia's guidelines. Could you clarify for me? I am brand new to Wikipedia and am still learning, and want to make sure all of my future requests are in alignment with the guidelines. I appreciate your time and look forward to your reply! New request for History updates
editAn impartial editor has reviewed the proposed edit(s) and asked the editor with a conflict of interest to go ahead and make the suggested changes. |
Hi, Wikipedia. I'm Michele and I am an employee at Diligent Corporation. I am taking over for User:JHDiligent to request updates on Wikipedia.
Taking Actualcpscm's feedback into account, I am posting a new request to update the first two subsections of this article's History section: Early history and New company.
Change 1
- Delete: Early history subheading
- Reason for the change: See below. I am requesting this section be consolidated significantly, which will make an Early history subheading unnecessary.
Change 2
- Change: Diligent was founded by Brian Henry and Kiri Borg in 1994 as Manhattan Creative Partners (MCP).
- To: Diligent was founded by Brian Henry and Kiri Borg in 1994 as Manhattan Creative Partners (MCP)[1] which consulted and hosted secure websites for financial institutions, mutual funds and insurance companies.[2][3]
- Reason for the change: This provides additional context to the creation of Manhattan Creative Partners, and adds sourcing
Change 3
- Delete: In 1998, SunAmerica became a client of Manhattan Creative Partners after SunAmerica director Peter Harbeck and Brian Henry discovered a joint passion as airplane owners and recreational pilots. In 1999, Alessandro Sodi was hired and trained by Henry and Borg to assist in account management. Eventually, Henry turned over the day-to-day management of the SunAmerica account to Sodi.
- Reason for the change: No reliable sources verify these details
Change 4
- Change: In 2000, when SunAmerica expressed their desire to do away with their burdensome hard-copy corporate board paper books, Henry conceived of and hand-drew the design for the original and first web-based "Boardbook." Marco Morsella, the first employee hired by Henry and Borg in 1997 to be MCP's graphic designer, created a digital GUI based on Henry's design. SunAmerica became the first company to license the new, web-based Boardbook. Henry and Borg, and later the Diligent Partners, recognized the value of this innovative technology and invested most of the profits from other consultancy projects into the continuing development of the new software product.
- To: Diligent began developing Boardbook in early 2001, when client AIG Sunamerica, requested a secure automation of board documents.[2][4]
- Reason for the change: No reliable sources verify the details in the live article. My proposed text gives detail on the development of Boardbook in early 2001.
Change 5
- Delete: New company subheading
- Reason for the change: In cutting back material from these sections, the material is short enough that it does not need this subheading.
Change 6
- Delete: Henry was named CEO of the new entity, Sodi, President, and Carroll, chairman.
- Reason for the change: Content is unsourced
Change 7
- Change: At the same time, the company renamed MCP to Diligent Board Member Services "to reflect the firm's shift of focus to corporate governance service delivery."
Change 8
- Delete: By 2006, Diligent had expanded to Europe, Canada, and the UK.
- Reason for the change: Content is unsourced

After editors have time to review and implement these changes appropriately, I have some other suggested updates to this article, including more in other History subsections, that I will post in this format, if that's preferred. MSDiligent (talk) 21:31, 15 November 2022 (UTC)
Hi MSDiligent, thanks for your request (and for pinging me)! This is a relatively major suggestion, so it would be appropriate to establish consensus before implementation.
Regarding the suggestion, I think it is conceptually good and appropriate. There are some minor stylistic modifications to be made, but we can cross that bridge when we get to it. As regards consensus, I‘d like to get feedback from at least one other editor to ensure this is not a controversial edit. You can directly proceed to add the Citation Needed tag to the content you suggest be deleted for being unsourced. However, please do not implement any other changes just yet, pending further feedback. If nothing happens for a few days, please ping me again :) Actualcpscm (talk) 11:00, 16 November 2022 (UTC)
- @Actualcpscm: Thanks for your feedback. Given my conflict of interest and the strict rules about conflict of interest editing, I prefer not to add anything to the main article, even something as uncontroversial as a "citation needed" tag. I hope you understand. I will keep an eye on this request and ping you if no one else offers feedback. (By the way, there is another request to update the article about Diligent CEO Brian Stafford here if you are interested.) MSDiligent (talk) 19:52, 16 November 2022 (UTC)
- MSDiligent - Sure, I'll add them myself. I understand and appreciate your concern regarding COI policies, and it is better to err on the side of caution. Still, be aware that it is not unusual for editors with a documented COI to make edits once they have been specifically approved by another editor. In the template response options for the COIREQ template, there's a "Proceed" option "for allowing the COI editor to directly implement the requested edits to article themselves." As long as another editor explicitly approves a suggestion and tells you that you're okay to proceed, you're good to go :) Actualcpscm (talk) 22:08, 16 November 2022 (UTC)
- @Actualcpscm: Thank you for adding the notice about improving sources. When my colleague JHDiligent was working on this project, our team looked for reliable sources for that material, and could not find any, which is why we have proposed the deletion of and/or rewriting of uncited content based on appropriate sourcing. However, I understand that you want more time for others to review it as well. As of yet, no one has replied, so I wanted to give you a friendly ping. MSDiligent (talk) 20:57, 21 November 2022 (UTC)
- Go ahead: I have reviewed these proposed changes and suggest that you go ahead and make the proposed changes to the page. Johannes (Talk) (Contribs) (Articles) 08:10, 17 April 2023 (UTC)
