editApart from the difficulty of having 'two (diocesan) bishops in one city' (canon of Nicaea), I would appreciate information i) whether other military vicariates headed by a bishop count as dioceses or whether France is unique in this; ii) following the state funeral of a former government minister this summer at St Louis des Invalides celebrated by the diocesan bishop, at what point does a member of the French military become a member of this diocese and does he/she retain this status irrespective of their residence and occupation until deceased?____Clive Sweeting29October2015
Terminology
editWhat is the difference between a Military Vicar, Military Ordinary, and Military Bishop? Isn't a bishop an ordinary? Is this just changing labels? Or is there some substance involved?
Also, what rank in the military (if any) does a MV, MO, MB hold? What ranks do their officials hold? Is his Secretary a Monsignor or a Major Monsignor, for example?
