Rolling stock
editDoes DRS actually own any passenger coaches and, if so, what are they used for? I'm sure I saw what looked like a rake of Mk3 coaching stock painted in DRS livery when I was passing Heaton Depot in Newcastle a few days back. 217.155.20.163 17:09, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
They have five Mk 3s so far and two or three Mk 1s, the latter are used for MoD work to escort special nuclear trains to and from Sellafield. The Mk 3s have been at Newcastle Heaton because two of the DRS 47s have been working a daily test train for Grand Central to London Kings Cross. --Skarloey 23:10, 28 August 2007 (UTC)

55016/D9016
editWNXX's news archive for July 18th says this - "HNRC has revealed further information regarding the future of recently purchased 55016 and it looks set to be broken up for spares. HNRC advise that they have received numerous personal enquiries regarding the possible purchase of 55016's component parts. 55016 has been purchased from preservation purely as a business venture. Currently any and all options are open for consideration however HNRC discount the idea that 55016 could become a company flagship or pet locomotive. The rest of the Deltic Preservation movement will benefit from the dismantling of 55016 as some parts are now at a premium. HNRC wish to remind enthusiasts that back in the early 1980s 55016 was initially purchased as a source of spares for 55022 but was later repaired and returned to working order. There is a later update on August 18th - "Further to the previous notes about 55016 and its next running days at Peak Rail before leaving the site, it has been advised that it will not be featuring in the gala weekend of September 21st and 22nd but will be running over the following weekend, September 27th and 28th, instead. These running dates for 55016 should be regarded as its farewell, a suitable send off is to be arranged for it, HNRC advise, as, subject to completion of deals, its bogies and both power units are now technically sold on for re-use." http://www.wnxx.com/archive/news/2008/0808.htm
The fate of the components is the following, taken from a quote of WNXX on Preserved Diesels - "Its two Napier Deltic power units are set to be sold to an international engine dealer which, after refurbishment, are likely to be sold on for marine use. The Indian Navy and New York Fire Brigade are being suggested as possible destinations. HNRC also advise that they have received numerous personal enquiries regarding the possible purchase of 55016's component parts including the retention of the body shell in which to house a model railway. The two cabs, if severed, are a popular choice it seems.
