Talk:Director of the National Institutes of Health

Can the NIH director be fired by the President for any reason?

edit

In more recent years, U.S. presidents are beginning to replace more Federal agency directors for purely political reason and not on their ability to handle their job in a non-political way. In the past, the tenure of NIH director could span multiple presidential administrations and those directors tries to promote policies that are supported by independently reproducible scientific results.
